Many, many years ago, a supply ship entered port to unload provisions for a fishing fleet's extended voyage. Among the supplies were bushels of bananas. After loading supplies, the fleet raised sail and headed for the open ocean, unaware that the banana bushels were infested with unwelcome passengers - black widow spiders! Many aboard did not return alive.  Since this time, bananas have been taboo on fishing and sailing vessels and are considered to bring bad luck.
Google it.  Really some interesting reading about it.  I've known captains to bring and eat a banana on purpose when they are having bad luck - just to change it.  Most will just demand you not bring them.

In the salt, no water because I have a wetsuit on and hate having a piss in it when I'm not in the water itself.  I also figure part of the reason to go out and paddle is to keep my weight in check, so I don't take much in the way of food.  Nothing on the boat in fact.  I don't think I actually use that many calories when paddling out and back, or even trolling.  Sure I get tired and sore, but I have no problem hitting the afterburners, so it's mostly a light aerobic activity with bursts of sustained sprinting.  Then I justify gorging on junk food when I hit the beach.

Water, and that's about it.  Maybe a Clif Bar if it's a marathon session, but I, too, prefer paddling as my chief means of burning calories.

1 quart of water because I dehydrate easily.  I'll maybe have a piece of fruit if I'm going to be out past noon.  Noontime rings my "time to eat" bell.

Amen to that brother!  :icon_thumleft:

I usually have a few Clif Bars and a Nalgene bottle of water. I try to go easy on the water since I too really don't like taking the time to answer the call of nature or my cell phone or any other call for that matter. Unless, of course, it's another kayak buddy calling on the VHF.  ;)
When I'm back on shore, I then proceed to the nearest gas station (usually at the corner of Brooten Rd. and Pacific Ave.) for a bag of Jalapeno Kettle Chips and a sans-sugar Monster energy drink. Life is good.

My kayak is not a banana.  It's a war canoe.  I'm good enough, I'm smart enough, and gosh darn it...people like me!

Some kayaks are stuffed with pool noodles, mine...Cheetos, delicious and buoyant too.  Please pass the cheese whiz...

On the salt.....water and my Med's. I be sure to eat a good meal before any salt trip.
On the river.....water, trail mix, jerky, Med's, and the cooler full of Hammsandwiches.

TLW just picked up some Lara Bars.  Not bad.  All natural ingredients.  The Original Fruit is pretty good.

PBJ's or PBH's and water, Cliff Bars, Bananas. Bananas.
At least two liters of water for a half day go-out. At least a gallon for all day trips. I'd rather piss on myself in my wetsuit and have to soak in it, than get dehydrated and suffer cramps in my calves or feet.
I am not superstitious! At best, I am completely agnostic. On bad days, I can be a pessimist, cynic, and atheist.
I will always try to sneak a banana on board someone else's boat, just for fun!
My best days of fishing had "bananas on board" or in my gut.
I'm not afraid of Black Widow Spiders. I used to keep them for pets when I was a kid, age 10 and 11. One crawled across my hand and up my arm once, when I reached down a hole after a large Greater Swift (lizard) I was trying to grab. I saw it after I pulled my arm out  of the hole, and flicked it off before it ran up the sleeve of my T-shirt. It didn't bite me. :o
