Are you using regular WD 40, or "water resistant silicone lubricant" shown at the top right  http://www.wd40specialist.com/products

I also found that the original gasgets need to rotated back to the right position for smoothest functioning.

I was using the regular WD-40.  I'll get the water resistance silicone version.  Thanks.  I've found the seals rotate the first time the hatch is closed.  I have considered using a few small dabs of Goop to hold the seal in place.

Big hugs and thanks going out to Zee and INSAYN for the help.
Ended up using the 8" Daytona plastics and the 6" hatch is a Johnson outdoor product.

Does it still float?   ;)

After the Seahawks defeat today I needed another focus.(I still might vomit)
moment

Decided to address a possibility just in case it doesn't float.
