None of my floatation tactics are new to this sites veterans but I thought that they might help some of the neophytes.
I like to make the floatation multifunctional. I want any gear stowed to remain in place so that when I go to get something from the hull it is exactly where I left it and is still accessible.
I run all wires, and even the transducers, through the noodles so that the inside of the hull is clean.
The ribbed style in the photos is just the foundation and more floatation can be added as desired.

Currently working on the inner workings of the RTM boat and trying out a pool noodle, mini-cell, and ping-pong ball combo. That project isn't ready for documentation yet.
Anyway, I hope this can help someone or at least inspire some better ideas than these.

Hydrospyder, you make noodles sexy. dang!  i like what you have done, you have my mind going now.  how does your transducer noodle work?  perhaps you've already shared, maybe show guide me to a link?

All the stuff HS posts up is always so cool.

I'm guessing in the event of a violent huli the change in hull pressure will cause the foil wrapped ping pong ball to travel the length of the noodle and contact a switch that fires a scupper mounted aerial flare.

You can tell HS is an EMT by the inside of his kayaks. Everything is perfectly organized just like the inside of a meat wagon.

The transducer rib is super simple. I just cut away a section that holds the transducer and slice open the section of noodle needed to lay the wiring into.
I typically dab a spot of marine goop every foot or so to hold the noodle to the hull and it allows easy removal if its ever needed. I just goop the transducer face to the hull when I place the middle rib.

I like the ribbed floatation but I believe that it's the bulkheads that should be the primary focus and on BOTH ends of the boat. Not easily done in most of todays SOTs. Tank wells and the lack of aft hatches make it challenging. My ping-pong ball project my help, if it works, and will still allow for drainage.
When I was participating with the ncka I learned that a short piece of PVC is great for attaching poodles together end to end. This was extremely helpful in my attempts to have equal floatation running the length of the boat and still keeping the slots between the ribs open for rod storage.
A lot of this stuff is inspired out of a dislike of any inflatables in a boat that could be punctured and will have sharp things in the hull regularly. Elevation changes can make them a pain too.

I'm guessing in the event of a violent huli the change in hull pressure will cause the foil wrapped ping pong ball to travel the length of the noodle and contact a switch that fires a scupper mounted aerial flare.
That could require a lot of flares.

Here you go Lee.

    Now that's a cool picture..... ;D ;D ;D
