I know I keep asking but I really have no idea what a lot of things are tackle wise, would someone like to meet up and guide me through the fishing section and point some things out. I am like a child learning about all this stuff. WTF are buzz bombs? How do I rig them? What do I use to target salmon? What do I use for lakes? How do you properly troll?
Not gonna lie fly choice is so much easier. Just match the hatch!

Well if anyone wants to meet up this weekend and give me a crash course let me know. I should have spent more time at the sportsmans show and took Dino around and had him explain everything!
Thanks
Anthony

What are buzz bombs? They're pure awesome is what they are.
Tie them on mainline (monofilament) as shown below from left to right. Line goes through buzz bomb body, through rubber stopper, and tied to the hook.

You jig the lure vertically or cast and retrieve letting it fall from time to time.
Works like a charm. Everything from trout to king salmon as they come in different sizes. I have a buzz bomb tangle box I use for different types of fish. Oh, and rockfish love em.

If it helps... Think what fish you want to catch and focus on that. I'm pretty sure salmon is over. What is the next fish you want to catch?

I am looking at getting tackle mostly, so I am ready for pinks. Next fish I guess would be lake fish, trout and bass.

I literally just started fishing last year. I am confident in fly fishing for trout but everything else is just alien to me. I have tried to read up but I am a hands on visual learner.

Anthony.. we're gonna be doing quite a few HOW events where we'll be targeting humpies so, you'll get a chance to get fish for them with us as a Vet at first but after a couple of times out I'll be putting you to work.;) as a volunteer.

If you can meet me closer, I don't mind walking through Sportsman's Warehouse in Southhill Puyallup and we can go through the different types of fishing we will be doing.

I live in Olympia and would be happy to help ya however I can.  I have only lived here 3 years and am still learning the area, but have been fishing since I could walk and can help with some general knowledge.  Happy to hook up with you for some local lake or sound action too if our schedules can match up.

Anyway, very happy to help however I can.

Anthony -
I picked this booklet up at the Sportsman's show. It shows dozens of rigs complete with brand name lures and tackle. I find it extremely helpful, and for $6, it is a bargain. You should be able to find it in a store near you.

There is also this book... http://books.google.com/books/about/Illustrated_Rigging.html?id=jkxEAAAACAAJ
it can be a bit spendy, but has a ton of rigs and can be helpful for beginners

For buzz bombs in the salt in WA you will need to swap out the treble hook for a single barbless hook, say a 2/0.  Can't go wrong with a small pink buzz bomb for pink salmon.

2 Pink Seasons ago I was taking several coworkers out each weekend in the PB.  As host I was providing all gear.   I was investing in good number of small Buzz Bombs thanks to their habit of dragging gear along the bottom.  During peak season,  store shelves can dry up of the small pink version.   I experimented and started making these for a significant savings.  Found they worked almost as well as Buzz Bombs.   Just present with a twitching action on the retrieve.
I would still grab a BuzzBomb first,  but as a backup or cheap alturnative,  they are not bad.

I used to think that Bigfoot might exist. Then I saw the reality shows where they are looking for them.  Now I am certain they don't
