I'm looking to upgrade FF to 596c HD Di and someone told me that the Di wouldn't work with the transducer placed inside my Hobie hull. Someone told me that HB has a scupper transducer that would work. From pictures I've seen of it, it doesn't look like the threaded part that goes through the scupper hole is long enough to get a nut on it to tighten it down. Has anyone used this on a Hobie Outback or any kayak? If so, and it's a different brand of kayak, what is the measurement you have from top to bottom where the transducer fits in the hole? Greatly appreciate any information.

Someone?   :D

I run a Humminbird DI and don't have any problems shooting through Polyethylene.

Do you get accurate readings? I've heard that all the kayaks have some bubbles in them, so that affects getting accurate readings.

Yes I get accurate readings.  If the issue you are talking about really was an issue, there would be 10's of thousands of kayak anglers on the water with issues.  It wouldn't be specific to DI either.  I've talked to tech support at Humminbird and they claim it shouldn't be an issue either.

I run a scupper mount in my OK Prowler.. Im not sure of the measurement of how deep my scupper is but I remember the plastic bolt being fairly long.  If I remember correctly I cut like 3-4 inches off to fit mine.. Just FYI if you use the scupper mount, I dont use the foam "support" piece that fits in the scupper around the bolt.  This piece is there for support of the bolt, but it completely plugs that scupper and you end up with a pool of water.. That is the the scupper holes on my OK and it might be different for your Hobie.. Other then that, its been great!!

noob,
i think Demonick,I might be wrong, scalloped the underside of that big plastic nut to allow draining when he used the scupper transducer kit. use of the search function should bring up a ton of pics for this install.

also, guys, look for the thread "shoot thru the hull, shoot me in the head" for more details on inside the hull transducer installations.

I can see how that might help too if the scupper holes are bigger but for me the foam puck completely clogged the OK's scupper.. No worries though, it drains perfect without it and I haven't had any issues since.. Thanks for the heads up though

Ill try diggng thru some old installation articles i saved over the past few years. Sean White of Great White Kayak Co. did the OK Trident community a huge favor a few years back and documented his full mod install on a T 15. If i come up with it will share it. I think it was also posted here and on our sister site, too if you'd like to spend time searching. Definitely worth the time you'll spend reading it.
