From what I hear, all the cool kids in AK peddle. I happen to sail and peddle, but absolutely have never been accused of being one of the cool kids... Lol

There's a very good chance I would.  90%+ probability.
Peddle, paddle doesn't matter to me as I'm still not an official OK pro-staffer.

I've seen Rudy paddle into some big fish and that boy is king cool.  Lol!

If its the Paulson bay cabin... I've stayed there.  It's a nice spot in a small secluded bay just a short peddle away from deep water and fish.  If you time it right, there is a stream about 30 ft from the cabin that gets a run of pinks, and another stream about .5 miles away with silvers.

Might be a good idea to bring a shrimp pot or 2.

Space is a premium at this one, as it's surrounded by trees and hills, not many flat spots for an extra tent.

Don't look at the forums for a few hours and it just degenerates into a bunch of craziness!  haha.  Ya "king cool"?  bwahahaha.  Ya, he Paddles a mini-x in open ocean until much "smarter" people at NWKA say "ARE YOU INSANE!?!?!"  When I first joined, while people helped and praised my go get'em attitude, I think secretly they were pointing at me saying "Not cool...he rides the short kayak...."

I will say for Alaska fishing here in Southcentral Alaska with Salmon as a primary target, I will say hands down no question about it that the "pedal" mode is better suited for me personally.

Ok, not to hijack threads.  The streams with the pinks intrigue me.  Remember in PWS you can use pinks and chums sport caught for bait.  I've always wanted to spend a few hours off a small pink stream with a whole pink salmon fished off the bottom in a little deeper water off the mouth.

Well, well... glad to see you guys are dreaming in the right direction.  Yes, it is the Paulson Bay cabin that I have reserved. In August, there are pinks, chums and silvers entering the larger Cochrane Bay -- and so timing on finding ample Pacific salmon of some species seems right.  I'm happy to travel long distances to fish as many of the shelf breaks at creek mouths as I can until I find what's concentrating where.  I, for one, love catching chums on a 7/8 wt and just holding on for dear life. And now I'm intrigued at the idea of using a pink as bait for something much larger at depth.  Already, I see gear acquisition possibilities in this trip!

I haven't confirmed the water taxi yet -- the guy I normally use is working a job over by Cordova for that week unfortunately.  He's passed along a referral, and I want to button that down soon.  It's nice to have a remote trip to look forward to already, isn't it?

Andy, is there room for at least one additional tent? Or what about the cove between Paulson and Surprise Coves -- any tent sites there? Things to think about if the party grows.

There is room for one 3-4 man tent right behind the cabin where an old woodshed used to be.  After that a hike up the hill is the nearest "flat" spot.  I don't remember anything else, because hunting was on my mind last time.  Lots of black bears in the area.

We used captain mike at lazy otter.  He has a big enough landing craft to take a group and some yaks out.

I've got the water taxi arranged for August 15 & 19.  So the big pieces are in place for an excellent trip. I'll bump this thread as August nears and we all have a better sense of realistic prospects of participation.

*Bump*

Final arrangements are underway for a four-night trip to Cochrane Bay in Prince William Sound departing August 15.  This bump is just to renew our friendly invitation, opening the trip to those who want to share in the adventure.  My husband and I have the Paulson Bay Forest Service Cabin (FSC) reserved, and have the water taxi arranged. There’s nothing fancy about it – very much a DIY trip.

Depending upon the number of folks who actually go, the per-person share on the water taxi and cabin fees will range from ~$170 to ~$212. As of today, it looks like we have four (4) on the trip. That means there is room for at least two more with the water taxi as arranged now.

Departing from Whittier on Thursday, August 15 @ 11 am, returning August 19. Pickup is scheduled for noon on Monday, August 19. Cochrane Bay is on Chart 16700, two bays south of Passage Canal.

Good luck and have fun. I'll be down on some Indiana rivers fishing for bullheads and crappies with my dad. Fun as it will be, the trip may pale in comparison to what you folks are doing!
