Steve's dad taught him how to catch Sturgeon on the Willamette and since then Steve has taught many (including me) the joys of dino hunting on the Willy. Today ten of us hit George Rogers to celebrate his Dad's life. It was an amazing day with minimal current and lots of big fish caught including at least 3-4 well over 6 feet.

Here are a few shots Noah's nice one and the monster that Steve graciously handed to me to save his wounded elbow. Steven's nephew Hunter held up as much as he could for the pic. Took me over 45 minutes to get it to the boat. Great times, thanks Steve for being a great son and passing on your Dad's legacy, I'm sure he's very proud of you.

I had a blast. Caught a few fishies, chatted with the guys. Overall an awesome day. Thanks for the invite Steve!

Now that's my idea of a fitting Memorial. RIP Steve's dad. What a loving legacy he left. Very nice.

It was a blast.  Here is a few more.

Hunter battling his 7+ foot monster.  At least that is what the gentlemen in the power boat who measured it said (at least that is what I thought I heard).

Later, he tied into another monster.  As I was heading back to the launch I snapped this picture of its head.

Now to be a little self-centered  ;D . Here is the only one I caught that could be legally taken out of the water.

Then, I caught one at the upper keeper-sized, lower over-sized range that wore me out.

About 5 minutes after releasing that one, I tied into an even bigger one that Ndogg and I estimated was in the mid 60s or so.  This one was a fighter. I had him almost to the top in 95 FOW and he decided to go right back down.  I was already tired and when I felt the weight hit bottom again I wished I would have popped a baby aspirin this morning.  I wasn't sure the old ticker could take it for round two. ;D  There was a point where I was leaning back so hard against the fish that if the line snapped I think I would have launched myself out of the kayak on the opposite side.  Good times!

WHAT AN EPIC DAY! 3 confirmed oversize with 2 at least 7 feet or better. 20 to 30 sturgeon caught and released. Today's memorial Sturgeon Fish was a fitting send off to a man who dedicated his life to the persuit of of that elusive monster of the deep. He was cremated with his favorite rod and interred in his trusty tackle box. I thank all of those who accompanied me on this memorial.

Nothing. They're just airing things out. ;)

I was just looking at that Sturgeon I caught (see original post), it appears to me it's nearly 3 feet to the front of the Pelvic Fin on that sucker and the Pelvic fin is only about 1/3 of his body length. We never were able to raise him high enough to see his head. I'm thinking that bad boy may have been closer to 8 feet, anyone have an opinion? It took me over 45 minutes to get him to the surface to release him.

What a fantastic tribute to Art and a great day on the water. Glad we could help some Van Dykes get into some Sturgeon!

Man, that looked like it was a blast! I need to start planning a trip to get up there. Pretty awesome to see a legacy being passed on.
