I'm marking it on my calendar as well.  This will be my 1st time in the Whiskey Gulch area waters....should be a nice learning experience!  Hopefully I'll see you guys there!

All right! You made it here, and now there's a plan.  If you're at Whiskey Gulch, you can't miss this bunch. The launch is really easy there, and the tidal exchange is pretty small for these parts -- so it should be good fishing for halibut as well as Kings. New EO limits us to 2 Lower Cook Inlet Kings this year.  I'll be beyond thrilled with even one.

Welcome!

It's definitely late this year. But it should only get better!

I suspect by the 18th, things will be in full swing!

Michele just got her outback!!  Woohoo!

Damn  >:( >:( >:(  I sure would like to join in on this foray. You guys should have a great time -derby or not. Hell...have an Alaska NWKA Derby amongst yourselves. Get a little bling for prizes, a few side bets, and let er rip......winner takes the pot.

Have fun with it and be safe out there.

Can't wait. Going to try a shakedown cruise or two prior to the meet-up.  Sorry I missed Matt this past weekend, but weather sure was iffy.
Good things come to those that wade.

+1

I propose that weekend we run an informal tally.  Most AOTY points (registered or not) from 12:01am sat to 3pm or noon Sunday.  Halibut and kings will be the main target but you'll never make up points if you don't catch a flounder.  I suppose greenling and dollies are a possibility as are starving steelhead...but unlikely.

Maybe we should prioritize. 4 times AOTY points or kings.  2 times for halibut (cuz you can catch two).  Other species just their normal points. Or just go kings and halibut only. I'm up for anything that's fun.

I'd consider buying or pitching in for a small plaque...may even get someone to donate or discount a small prize.

What do others think?

What shall we call this hopefully annual event?

Well, since it's out of Whiskey Gulch after all, how about naming it after a favorite Irish libation -- e.g., The Bushmill's Cup Classic. Top prize could be a bottle of the 16- or 21-year-old stuff to toast the winner out of some appropriate vessel.  OR, alternatively something seriously rotgut -- so it's clear that it's all in fun and not at all about the swag.

Also, I think the fishing period should run full days both Saturday and Sunday -- some folks are driving a far bit for two days of fishing, so let's not favor those who can get there Friday over those who won't roll in until Saturday and are counting on most of Sunday to find the bite too.

Gotta start someplace.

Just Kings and Halibut, I think.  Just my 2 cents to keep it rolling.

This sounds good. Not rotgut stuff though! Also who ever wins has to wear a funny hat or something like that  next time we go out!

And no outlawing sails! Hehe

"I like the way YOU think" There are a lot of fine, drinkable 17 year old scotches. If you'd like some suggestions let me know......

It's funny that none of you Alaskans thought of this idea---come-on man !!!   >:D

Sails have to be legal IMO... Mainly cause it's fun!

The no sail rule keeps me out of the AOTY competition.

Lol.  I'm ok with that.  Second outback arrived and will be rigged with amas and sail kit.  Give Michele something to do...after I catch my king trolling with it.  Nah...need AOTY points.  But I'd bet its fun!  With predominant north or south winds, it seems perfect for cook inlet.

I've got the 10x10 canopy and a 16x16 Kelly tarp for shade/rain shelter. Somewhere I've a plastic table I can bring as well. (Might have to bring my retards (dogs))

I've no intention of winning, might try to sail to kodiak instead... Lol
