We took a half a dozen very deserving Veterans up to Lost Lake off of Hwy. 26W for a day in the sun and some planter trout. Weather was awesome, the lake was cold and beautiful, and everybody had a swell time.

Big thanks to the Volunteers who helped out on this one, Sherman, Langston and Nate - you guys kick ass!

Here's a few pics, but none from the water because I was coffee/muffin man and grill master. More pics to come from Aytch and Noah.

Fishing was great, everyone caught fish, I'd say an average of 5-10 fish each. There were seven vets and seven volunteers, the weather was fantastic and all the volunteers did an awesome job.

Noah and Steve outfitted all the vets with two setups and immersion wear and LingBanger put together a great feast. All in all it was an awesome first event for HOW-PDX.

When my eyes recover a little I'll work on posting some pics and videos to the HOW FaceBook page and link it in here.

That's awesome guys!  Sounds like a great 1st event.  Glad everything came together for both the staff and participants!

What a fantastic show of support from the NWKA family! From Justin's generous donation of his kayak, to Steve's prepping of 14 poles, to Ling Banger's gourmet burgers, to the work of our 7 volunteers. Everything came together to provide a great day on the water for these deserving Vets. A HUGE thank you to all the other volunteers that put in did booth duty at the Boat, Sportsman's, and Saltwater show. Your efforts of spreading the word about HOW and shaking the donation jar really made this day possible. An extra big thank you to Sherman, Langston, and Nate for coming out and providing extra gear and support.

Really the day couldn't have gone much better. It was sunny, warm and the fishing was great.

Derrick with his first fish of the day

Derrick was a trolling machine, with little instruction he took right to figuring out the best lanes and kept moving all day long. It was his first time in a kayak outside of a pool and he was sporting Spot like form by the end of the day.

Great job guys!  Seems like a perfect place to take a group of vets out fishing.  Beautiful location, away from everything.  And some fish!

I haven't been there in at least 10 years, and had thought it would be a great spot to hit some trout in the kayak.  With the bonus of having a shot at some fun brooders.  Will have to add this to my to-do list for this year.

I encourage you all to volunteer some time with HOW (and other groups, too). I feel I receive as much, or more, than I give when doing these type of projects. It is always rewarding. IHop, Wobbler, Noah and LingBanger really did all the heavy lifting (figuratively - I lifted my own yaks  :)) and deserve the real thanks. The vets were all great, too, and were very appreciative.

For the record, my best setup was a silver & red Dick Nite tipped with 1" chunk of worm, trolled fairly slowly. I think I hooked 10, boated 8, kept 2.
