Hello,

I've been an avid jetty fisherman since I was 15 (Oregon's South Jetty at Fort Steven's). My 16 year-old son is now an accomplished fisherman, but because of a recent back surgery, I cannot make the long and slippery hike out to the elbow for bottom fish or salmon.

I would love to learn the ropes of ocean kayak fishing but I don't feel it's a good idea to attempt it as a total newbie. Is there a way to test the waters for equipment and techniques before attempting solo? Are there guides I could possibly hire?

Thanks for your help!

Welcome to the site! Google Groundswell Kayak Fishing and Kayak Fishing Oregon. Michael and Ron are great guys and can get you a great taste of what it's all about.

I'm not running trips at this time so you can leave Groundswell off the list.

Depending on the severity of your back issues you might find kayak fishing just as tough as jetty scrambling.  Good idea to try it for fit before you go all in.
