You can get quality stainless steel screws, washers, nuts, etc... pretty cheap at Lowes as well.  Not sure of Home Despot carries it.

My mother-in-law works at Lowes and says that they do carry some SS hardware but it's a pretty low quality. Do you think it's worth paying for better quality SS hardware to attach plastic to plastic?

Is anyone still thinking about Sunday? I'm up for more new adventures. I'll possibly be looking to go out Monday as well.

If all goes well, I have a friend coming to town Sunday night and wants to fish Monday.  Sounds like my plans for checking out the "Big C" were generally boo-hooed by the collective so I'm thinking Willamette or Multnomah Channel on Monday now.

I'm so new to fishing with gear that I'd be up for anything.

I've used the Lowes stainless on both my kayaks with no issues at all.  All you are really looking for in our applications are corrosion resistance, not weight bearing or tensile strength.  They will rip out the plastic before the metal of the hardware gives way.  I think it would be fine.

The high end stainless stuff at Fisherman's Marine or other boat shops is really, really $$$.

I am going to try to fish Sunday as well, likely back at Multnomah Channel (a very kayak friendly spot).

Just a reminder for folks going fishing on the Channel tomorrow... you need a Sauvies Island parking pass (cheap, and Sauvies is a great place to kayak in general).  You can buy one from the little convenience story on the left just after you cross the Sauvies Island Bridge (I think they are like 12 bucks for a year).

Other reminder is that when driving out to Gilbert River boat ramp, remember to take a RIGHT off of Sauvies Island Road and onto Reeder Road.  A certain angler forgot last weekend.  Driving directions from Portland linked in below.

You still thinking 8ish at the Gilbert River Boat Ramp?  I've got my yak on the truck and ready for an early start (8 is early for me on a weekend)!

Doesn't look like the tides are in our favor, buy like Spot said, there is no "bad" tide.  May have to run up the sides of the channel to make good progress upstream...sorta like a Salmon.

To all heading out tomorrow....tight lines.

I've got my rod holders and SS hardware. After work tomorrow, installation begins. Sunday? Springers? Gilbert sounds like a nice place to go.

I may be able to get out for a couple of hours at dawn.  If you see me, say hi.

Well I'm out.

My wife is still recovering from the flu that kept me from fishing last weekend so I'll be going to the Children's museum or some other toddler related activity to get my son out of the house so she can rest.

Good luck,
Brian

Slbrow6 (Scott), Spot, and I made it out today.  Spot had already been fishing an our or two when we arrived at 8:30.

Spot had to head out early, Scott and I stayed on the water until about 2:00-2:30.  No salmon for the day.  I caught one 38" sturgeon while slow trolling a herring (undersize, but he took me for quite a ride!)

I trolled herring most of the day.  Had maybe one in 3 of my brined herring get a good spin.  I think I needed to leave them in the brine longer (still soft).  Scott and Spot trolled Kwikfish with no luck.  I didn't see any of the boat anglers catching anything, though I heard of one salmon caught.

I am thinking about giving it a try again tomorrow afternoon (fishing the incoming tide).  Anyone else interested?  I'm thinking of heading back to the Channel, but I'd be open for other locations.

The rod holder will be ready in a few minutes. I have no idea where the fishing might be on, but I'm ready to try anyplace.  The channel sounds good to me.  Time?

I'll be aiming to launch around 9 from the Gilbert Boat Ramp. It sounds like a good day for a paddle.

Nice to see some Portland area guys getting together to do some fishing.  I'm still bummed I couldn't make it.  The sturgeon sounds fun. Good luck tomorrow.
