Are you going to do it out of a kayak?

Yea, if I go I'm going to use a setup like Howard's on my AI. Just gotta finish getting a couple things setup.  Be nice to get a little shakedown cruise.  Thinking of running a couple of 2 day sets, maybe for about 10 days and be done.

Gotcha. I'll look into rounding up my gear. I'm cringing about giving up my rod hours necessary to land a king. But if the weather is bad, I could see soaking a pot or two overnight.

Any idea of general location you would try? I'm going to stay close probably by Smittys cove.

Yea, I figure if I'm soaking pots I will be doing it on the opposite side of passage canal, down past the falls. I think I would prolly do afternoons off from work to set/reset them. Drop them Monday, reset Wednesday, reset Friday, prolly final pull the following Monday unless the ole freezer needs more.  I'd like to get somewhere in the 4 gal of tails range frozen up.

Might not set them til the 19th actually.  Reset on Sunday, Tuesday, Thursday be done.

How do you prep the shrimp for freezing?

One year I made bricks of shrimp, freezing them in water in the square ziplock containers and then once frozen, removing from container and wrapping with plastic wrap. After that I decided to instead just pay Fees to individually flash freeze them instead and give them to me in gallon ziplock bags. All I do is remove their heads.

I know of nobody that offers a flash freezing service locally.  I'm sure it exists.  I just haven't ever heard of that being available to random individuals.

That's because there aren't many plants that are willing to deal and keep straight small sport volumes. I know of one guy in B-ham.
Correctly done commercial freezing yields a vastly better product than trying to do it at home.

I have heard of guys using a cooler and about 20 pounds of dry ice to flash freeze fish.

Yea, the place I use does some processing for the Comm guys and the guides and such out of Whittier.  Prices aren't bad and the couple who own the joint are hella nice.

If you want some company on any of your trips out and back during the week, let me know. I've never set pots or done any shrimping, so would like to see it done.  That jaunt out to to falls is an easy trip in the Revo, though I couldn't keep up with you if you're under sail.

Just back from skiing, again. Perfect conditions, but I'm getting tired of the snow too.
