Awesome! I love ocean salmon fishing.  I will have a damper put in my summer fishing schedule, though. I have to go to Huntsville, Alabama for six weeks of fun in the sweltering humid sun (July thru mid August). :P Hopefully, I can squeeze some saltwater time in before and after.  I should have a few furlough days with nothing to do... >:(  but fish. >:D  Woe is me.  ;D

Nate, if you are feeling under the weather let me know. ;)

I know where I'll be this summer.

I really want to try jigging for salmon this year.  It's semi-popular small boat option for salmon fishing in the Great Lakes.

There's even a salmon university article about it.

It seems like a great kayak option if you can find a good bait ball.

There are several tactics I'd love to try but every time I find myself in the position to give it a go I ask myself

Ah see, I still haven't found anything that works for me so the world is still full of possibilities.   I think my default plan would be troll, but if I get tired of trolling or if I find a really nice bait ball I'd stop and jig for awhile.

If u found a nice bait ball you'd probably limit out before you had a chance to switch. Ocean salmon fishing is more about finding the fish than figuring out what's working. When they're around and hungry, just about everything works

It's funny that you posted a video on jigging kings, bsteves.
I was drooling over this video on jigging for coho this morning. There's a couple spots I might try this out this year. In the video you can see them slam the bait!

I caught a nice hen last year on a shrimp fly while bottom fishing from a power boat. it was a pleasant surprise to say the least. I'm so stoked for the salmon run this year...it's all I think about.

Love that video on jigging for coho -- Best 19 minutes I've spent today thinking about where to try this weekend. When I first started fishing in southern Indiana, I used to love to fish for largemouth bass with those Mister Twisters.  I never would have thought of a Mister Twister on a lead-headed jig for silvers though.  Wheels are turning!

My only problem is people are going to accuse me of snagging fish...that is a big problem around here. It really ruins the fishing for everyone.

If someone accused you of trying to snag one while you're jigging they're an idiot.
It's pretty clear when someone is trying to snag a salmon. It's pretty tough to intentionally snag a salmon when your lure is moving vertically a few feet up/down as opposed to horizontally in the water, being ripped continuously by someone on the bank who tosses out a 7'0 hook on 3 ounces and a single corky.
