I have been an Oregon kayaker for four years now and recently moved across the river to Washington.  Without my Oregon Fishing license I am having to explore new territory for a salt fix.  I have worked on boats leaving out of wesport many times so I know the area.  Where do you guys like to launch and are you mainly fishing along the jetties for bottom fish out of there?  I am hoping to hit it sometime this week if the weather cooperates.  Thanks for any advice guys.

Edit-
I have been checking out possible launches and fishing spots and I am going to try launching at westhaven state park and fishing the south jetty.  I figure that will do just fine for my intro to kayaking Westport.

Half moon bay is a free launch. Its not much surf but at low tide especially the waves can be very steep. Yea mainly bottomfishing along the jetties but the area gets a lot of fishing pressure. There is decent crabbing around there too. Be very careful of the ebb, its extremely strong! The currents in general at Westport can be really rough for a kayak, the smaller the tidal exchange the better IMHO.

The lot for halfmoon bay is under an observation tower and right before Westhaven state park. Easiest jetty access.

Another option , especially if it's kinda gnarly at Half Moon Bay , is to launch by the Coast Guard Station. Sure you need to pay the launch fee ($5 or $10 not sure which) and fish just outside the breakwaters. There are a couple of nice holes to fish and you get a little protection from the weather. Plus when the salmon are returning to the boat basin you might intercept a few out front.

Be kinder than necessary--- everyone is fighting some kind of battle.

Sailors may be struck down at any time, in calm or in storm, but the sea does not do it for hate or spite.
She has no wrath to vent. Nor does she have a hand in kindness to extend.
She is merely there, immense, powerful, and indifferent

Just looking over the half moon bay area on google earth. Is it my imagination, or is there a sunken town about 700 feet off shore of neddie rose drive?
As of July 12th, I am, officially,  retired.

One more thing. This is a great link to give you a estimate of how strong the currents will be.

Thanks for the info guys.  I can't wait for a window to get out there and learn some new grounds.  I'll let ya know how it goes.
