hey guys I'm new to the board and kayak fishing. I just ordered my Pescador angler and I'm ready to hit the scene. I'm going to hit the San Juan Islands for the opener I had a few questions about the best places to put in. I was going to launch around Washington Park and paddle over to burrows Island and Allan. has anybody else tried this area for ling ccod or bottom fish?. I was also wondering how far is the paddle over to Cypress island? I will be fishing on a slower tide since I don't have a touring kayak. Any other options for ling cod would be very helpful thank you. Maybe see some of you out there.  I'm not new to ling cod and the juans. Just now I'm limited to where I can go.

This is a good resource to check the currents you'll be up against.

Maybe it goes without saying, but never hurts to ask.  Have you set yourself up with proper gear as far as ready for immersion, radio ....   My first few times out on the salt was with a very experienced kayak angler and thankfully so.    I still find myself employing the Buddy System and always fish with others on the salt for safety's sake.

I used to think that Bigfoot might exist. Then I saw the reality shows where they are looking for them.  Now I am certain they don't

Do you have a rape whistle? Has your mother written your name inside of all your underwear? Did you tell at least three different people where you are going?
Remember to bring your Life Alert safety necklace in case you fall and can't get up ....
Seriously he is a grown adult if he wants to ask what to wear I'm sure plenty of people will tell him him everything they know from their weeks and weeks of kayak fishing.

Until then no need to be everyone's mother.

Yeah, I didn't get that at all from Craig's comment. The guy said he's new to kayak fishing, it doesn't hurt to ask him if he's got immersion gear. We all love this sport and want to promote doing it safely. Not sure why a simple and common comment like that set you off.

It is not our job to hold everyone's hand or be their mother.

I have been coming to this forum and gathering information because everyone seems nice, helpful and stress the importance of safety.
I was glad when people asked me if I had all that was needed to be safe.
+1 on relaxing ....  try a Midol

Having learned how tough it can be for a newbie kayaker to buck some of the currents in the Sound, I would strongly advise you not to go out to that area, especially by yourself, until you have some substantial experience and know your capabilities.  There's other places that are much more protected from the currents that hold good lings.  I'm sure you know where most of them are if you're as experienced with the San Juans and ling fishing as you claim.

I personally thought the rape whistle comment was funny.
I think there are 2 different types of kayakers on this sight.
There are those who love the adventure, and those who love the serenity.
I'm new to the sight and I don't know how many times  have seen a simple question about fishing turn into why aren't you wearing your helmet.

But on a side note what does an immersion radio do for you? Is it just in case you get separated from your boat, or is it if you can't paddle anymore because you're to tired?

Oh believe me, there are a whole lot more "types" of kayakers on this site than that.

An immersion radio is important for a lot of reasons. It could be for both of the reasons you mentioned. If something happens and you fall out of your boat and for whatever reason you can't get back in you need a way to let someone know you're in trouble. Non-waterproof radio and water do not mix which means you could be floating out there a loooooong time.

I think you missed the comma between immersion and radio.  He meant immersion gear (drysuit, etc) and a radio to call for help as seperate items.
