So I ordered some GearTracs from Hook1. It was sweet to get the discount on these things  ;D
It didn't take me long to figure out how I wanted to rig things. I wanted things simple, clean and flush as possible. I mount my kayak upside down on my Blazer so I didn't think a Ram Ball would gel with sliding across the roof rack. GearTrac solved that problem and I found a sweet place to install them.

I liked the idea of the tracks being recessed so they didn't get hung up on anything when moving the boat on and off my vehicle. I double checked to make sure the rudder controls wouldn't get damaged by drilling holes in the tray areas. Installing was easy. I won't go into detail about the install as it's pretty cut and dry.

I bought a couple Ram Rods that are paired with the screw ball that slides right on the tracks. Pretty slick design. I use the holder on the left to store my spare rod. The one on the right. Sorry you can't see it very well...I have it angled out toward the front when I'm fishing. When I catch a fish I naturally want to slide the rod in the tube so I can tend to the fish. It works really well for keeping the rod from getting beat up by a floppy fish and gives me room to measure and take pictures.

The extra length of track gives me some options. I plan to mount a GoPro off the left side along with the extra rod holder. I need to figure out how to store a net when salmon season starts. I could probably just get another rod holder like the one pictured.

Anyway, this is my first round of upgrades. Up next is the FF mount and the GoPro mount. I'm not sure how I'm going to go about those projects but I have a couple ideas but I don't have the technology to make the parts I need to adapt to by Mighty Mounts. I think my girlfriend's dad can help me with that  ;D
I will follow up once I get all of that figured out.

Nice set up. I have the same rod and reel. You can't go wrong.

Yeah, I just got it a couple weeks ago. The only thing I miss is the thumb button like my Abu Garcia Kalex 61. I was using the kale paired with an 8'6" lamiglass salmon rod. I don't love a long rod while fishing from a kayak. Especially when braid likes to tangle at the tip. The shorter tiger lite is so much better.

That's funny I just picked mine up 2 weeks ago. You will get use to the release it's not all that bad.

I like the 7' length. Plus you can strech up around the front of the kayak as well.
