Okay got out for a couple hours on Sunday. And was rewarded with a nice little halibut!

Wow a bunch if different weather these last 4 days! Every update to the NOAA forecast was wrong. I probably only had 10 hours of fishing time the whole 4 days.

The kings are around for sure. But it was hard fishing for them due to wind and waves. Had one on for a second. I saw a fish arch in my finder and thought oh boy here it comes than WHAM fish on! Then off!

Had a nice take down while halibut fishing but missed that one, then the one I got today.

And so the season begins in earnest. I'm impressed you managed 10 hours out there under the conditions that developed. Did you pick up the halibut while trolling for Kings? Did you, by any chance, autopsy that fish to see what she's been eating? I'm just curious about the baitfish, whether herring or sand lances or... What's in the water right now? The halibut don't seem selective, but it's useful when thinking about attracting those Kings.

Good job getting your deck slimed.

Got a real late start sunday. Passed Matt at clam gulch. I had visions of sneaking a fish or two but it wasn't to be.

I didn't see anything on my sonar. I did see a pod of humpback whales which is fairly unusual I think.

I managed AOTY points for a flounder. I actually took a picture to submit.   On the board baybeeeee!!!!!!

It feels like every weekend I don't do much. But this weekend I drove 12 hours, roughly 600 miles...no real fish.

Ice fished a lake with three feet of ice. Then enjoyed a sunny warm day on the saltwater.  Damn life would be good if I could sprinkle in some catching!!!!

I caught the halibut while fishing the bottom. It was pretty funny, me and Andy were fishing right next to each other and I said " I think I need new bait", so I reeled up and put a fresh piece on and as soon as it hit bottom it was fish on!

I did open it up and found 2 crabs and what looked like a baby cod or Irish lord. Most of the halibut I examine out there always have crab in them.

Did you just change out your bait, or had you been fishing on credit?

If it makes you feel any better, I just paid $150 at Sagaya for a 15# halibut -- so by my way of looking at it, you caught yourself a break-even fish with that one.  I had a bunch of friends over for fish tacos for a Cinco de Mayo party.  I was embarrassed to admit that I didn't catch the fish.

Matt - thought of you a few times over the weekend, particularly when it was howling or snowing or howling/snowing, though your tent looked cozy with the stove. Of course, the weekend is over and the sun finally comes out.

Pam - totally plausible deniability about the origin of the halibut served - "of course" you caught it.  ;D
Good things come to those that wade.

LOL -- I think so long as I'm not claiming more fishing success than I've had, I'll keep that good mojo working for me.

Pam- yeah I just changed out my bait. I had been using the same piece for 2 days! I thought to myself "that's probably a little bland by now" haha

Oh yeah the arctic oven tent with stove paid for itself this weekend. It's one thing to not fish, but its really miserable if you have to be cold and not fishing!
