I've been lurking for about a year. This site is an amazing resource and its time for me to contribute.

I started kayak fishing last spring. All my fishing has been done at Cape Kiwanda, rock fishing for lings, cabezon, sea bass. My first trip was in a sit inside touring kayak. My buddy lost his rod after getting nailed by multiple rollers on the way out. We didn't give up and made it past the breakers and managed to catch 4 fish sharing a rod and feeling pretty green. Then we were both flipped on the way back in. A successful trip in our eyes!

Since then we have both bought SOT fishing yaks. I found a used WS tarpon 140 which I'm very happy with. We made 2 more trips last spring with the highlight being a huge ling hitchhiker we were totally unprepared for and lost. Heartbreak!

We went out for the first time this year last Sunday. The bites were slow but steady in the morning and died off around 11. No lings but we landed 2 sea bass and threw back 2 huge cabbies (not easy but you can't keep cabezon right now). My biggest problem with ocean kayak fishing is sea sickness. I was pretty miserable the entire time out there. Will probably take something next time to see if that helps.

That's my story. I'm looking forward to sharing stories, swapping ideas, modifying my yak, and exploring new fishing opportunities. I love this site and appreciate all those who contribute.

Welcome to the site! You should roll out to ORC in July. Depoe is a pretty short drive for you.
