Ok.  I decided I need a lightweight kayak trailer than can be hauled by my civic.  I was considering sucking it up and buying a full sized ATV or snowmachine trailer but thought I want to have the option of using my civic.

So I looked the Hobie double double up at Austin Kayak and they had it for $1520 plus $199 Hobie shipping and $14.95 extra shipping to Alaska.  I was a tad stunned at the minimal "overcharge" for Alaska.

So...is this a decent deal and trailer?  Any other options?  All things equal, I'd rather buy from the pacific Northwest especially stores NWKA members work at or frequent.  But I've ordered through ACK and they get it out the door in a hurry.

When I inquired to a Hobie dealer about a Hobie trailer, I was steered toward the Malone product instead.  I have a Malone now, used 2008 or 2009, and I like it.

Thanks Lee. ACK has them too without the $199 hobie charge. Only $14.99 for shipping.

Any other "local" options???

I'm looking at castlecraft.com for a trailer for whatever new kayak I get. They have some superlite wt rigs that have a lot of adjustments and free shipping. All aluminum , bigger wheels and lite enuff to work as a beach launch(by hand) vehicle. Little spendy butless than eitherof the ACK trailers. Art

I've got the trailex trailer for the AI. got it all from hobie cat northwest. I really like it and got the AI and everything shipped to ak for something 250.00.

It was so cheap on shipping because the delivered to carlile free of charge and then I saved 100.00 cause I picked it up from carlile down at the port.

Yes, I am a cheap bastard...

Your not cheap. Shipping is a total waste of money! It's all the same, get the best deal on it I say.

The only one I got was estimated to be 800 if I shipped a trailer and an AI!

I'm hoping to pick up a Malone this year as well.

A quick check of their website says Sportsman's Warehouse in Anchorage and Wasilla are dealers up there.

Also I called Austin kayak too and the lady there said they would have to work a shipping qoute up. So the way things are going I have a 50 % chance of them even calling me back but we will see. So far getting quotes has been like pulling teeth! No one wants to do it. Meanwhile my AI cash pile is dwindling the longer it sits in my bank account!

Yea, I got a good deal on my shipping but it wasn't fast, about 10-12 days I think.

I used the website and live chat. It was basically whatever the price including "special shipping charges from hobie" plus $14.95. For the trailer it was 199.  Maybe that's good only for UPS shippable stuff.  Other trailers didn't have that charge.

I would have to believe you could get something custom built (or DIY) in AK for less than the $$$ you're talking about.

Why wouldn't your civic pull a small 2 place snow machine trailer. They only weigh a few hundred pounds with not much tongue weight.
No matter how many times the PB's tell me I'm nuts....I still smile every time I out fish them

I borrowed a buddies aluminum sled trailer to take the AI home from Carlile. His trailer was 10' long so between the front and back I had 6' of AI hanging off, wasn't horrible... I had an rusted out steel sled trailer but I sold it for I think 500.00, it was a pile of crap too. I dunno why those things cost so dang much.  Those aluminum ones are even worse... But hey, they are cheaper than that Yakima one... That thing is 2500.00!!!
