Toots was so excited to have made picture of the month.

Toots - "oh yay! I made picture of the month!!! Did you make picture of the month with your first kayak fish too?"

Me - "um, no... My first kayak fish was a couple inches smaller than yours"

   Nice fish RR
   It sucks to hook yourself.........
   But nice fish.
Life is short---live it tall.

Be kinder than necessary--- everyone is fighting some kind of battle.

Sailors may be struck down at any time, in calm or in storm, but the sea does not do it for hate or spite.
She has no wrath to vent. Nor does she have a hand in kindness to extend.
She is merely there, immense, powerful, and indifferent

Yeah, once the adrenaline is going you barely feel it. Once I got home and that wore off, that's a different story. :sad1:

RR - congrats on both your catches.  Its great you can share the fun with your wife.

I was wondering about snapping the Trevala rod - especially since I have a couple heavy and medium heavy Trevalas.  Was it just too weak, or did you accidentally high stick it?

No high sticking on the Trevala. I actually had the TVC-66M which is the medium version. Even though it's not as beefy as the medium heavy or heavy, it's got quite a bit of backbone and should handle medium/medium large sturgeon like the two in the pics. The problem was I hooked into a REALLY big one. The Trevala was doing just fine for most of the fight (~25 min), however when the fish was coming up easy, then decided it wasn't ready and made a big run, the rod couldn't handle it. The fast run paired with a tightened down drag on my Avet SX caused the rod to buckle. It just wan't made for that type of punishment. It was my fault for brining that light of gear out sturgeon fishing. A mistake I won't repeat :)

Update on the Trevala situation. I sent the rod back to Shimano with a note on what happened.
They have just sent me an email telling me a brand new Trevala is in the mail.
Two thumbs up for Shimano.

Also, I edited out the size of that fishie from the video. Figured it would be best given some of our recent debates regarding the sturgeon regs.
