Brit and I celebrated our 4 year wedding anniversary this weekend. Instead of a fancy pants dinner and some lame play, she asked me to take her fishing.
We were on the water and fishing by 9:00 am this morning. We anchored, baited up, and first rod went in the water. I find bottom, set the drag and set the rod down to clip the leash to Brit's kayak. The rod was on bottom for less than 10 seconds and the tip starts bouncing. Brit grabs the rod, sets the hook and fish on!
This was her first fish from a kayak and she handled it like a champ.

She caught 3 keeper size and hooked into a huge oversized that gave her a sweet sleigh ride. Unfortunately that one buried down deep and eventually spit the hook.

And of course, the video of her first sturgeon ever.  :)

Given all of the excitement, I forgot to fish! I baited up and got my rig out there. 2 keeper size to the boat then it was time for the big boys. Langston strolls by to say hello and what do ya know, my first oversize of the day.

He was a big bully (the fish not Langston). He took me for a ride before burying his head on the bottom and not budging. It was a 25 minute tug of war before I could coax him off the bottom. I thought I had him beat as he was coming up nice and easy. A few feet from the surface he must have found his turbo fins cuz he was off like a rocket back to the bottom. Unfortunately by now I had my lever drag up on max and my poor Shimano Trevala couldn't handle the punishment. SNAP! The rod snapped  in half and that was that. Sucks about the rod, but that made me that much more motivated. Sometimes you get the fish, sometimes it takes one of your favorite rods and busts it in your face.
I rigged up for the last cast of the day, one big meaty juicy squid that was at the bottom of the box. Out it went, and 60 seconds later I was unhooking anchor for my second sleigh ride of the day. This one took me down a good 200 yards and 18 minutes of tug of war before it came up.

Best anniversary ever.

Awesome!  Lookks like you guys had some fun in the sun. I was going to head down there today to see if the bass were biting. But, life got in the way.  I put up a killer solar security light though. :P

Man I am so impressed with you guys. I was fishing on Saturday and thought about wearing shorts but I figured I'd get sliced to ribbons by the scutes. I also always wear gloves now when I fish for sturgeon. How I feel like a pansy after seeing Brit haul that bad boy in.

You guys totally rock!!

Happy Anniversary!

What a great way to make some memories. That looks way more fun then an overpriced candlelight dinner in a crummy snobatorium.

Congrats to you and your wife!  Looks like a great time.  Good seeing you out there - was going to come up to where you'd anchored and see how things were going, but spent too much time not catching with my son and had to get home and get my daughter to her softball tournament.

Last year on our anniversary we went fishing in our underwear off a dock. Not sure if we progressed this year or regressed, but it was a super fun time either way. Don't let RR ever fool you guys, he is a big softy. I love you snoodleboob smoochy bear. And to top it off....xoxo.

You should have seen her out there. This was her first kayak fishing trip and she handles those big sturgeon like a veteran. Good balance, good fight techniques, took directions like a champ, and handled the sleigh ride like a pro. I was pretty impressed.

Those are photo's some of us will use to coax our Girl Friends or Wives to join us on the water.
I used to think that Bigfoot might exist. Then I saw the reality shows where they are looking for them.  Now I am certain they don't
