If you miss it and hit Anchor Point, you just back track 5 miles. Heading south, there is a small green sign that I think says "beach access" or something like that.

Reviewed with the CFO (the wife) and our new company, QBFOffice.com, will sponsor a $50 gift card - Sportsmans Warehouse ok? Rods and reels look great - I'm psyched! Also hit up a buddy who runs a tackle site - think they get some good stuff from vendors - keep you posted.
Good things come to those that wade.

Nice!  Thanks!  Given we are around 10 people so far, I think value of prizes is getting up near $750 or more.  That's not a bad pay out percentage for a "free" derby!  I appreciate everyone's help in making this event more interesting!

The road you're looking for is Whiskey Gulch Dr.

If you get to the campground with the camper painted like a bumble bee....turn around...You've gone too far.
No matter how many times the PB's tell me I'm nuts....I still smile every time I out fish them

Life is short---live it tall.

Be kinder than necessary--- everyone is fighting some kind of battle.

Sailors may be struck down at any time, in calm or in storm, but the sea does not do it for hate or spite.
She has no wrath to vent. Nor does she have a hand in kindness to extend.
She is merely there, immense, powerful, and indifferent

I want to keep everything small and informal but I didn't want to pass up the opportunity to promote kayak fishing and NWKA so I asked one of the top interent fishing sites in Alaska to post it.

http://www.alaskaoutdoorjournal.com/Reports/Fishreport/anglerreport.html

I also posted a notice in the Sea Kayaking forum on the outdoors directory.
http://forums.outdoorsdirectory.com/showthread.php/131423-Whiskey-gulch-May-18-19-gathering

We aren't getting flooded with new entries yet so I think its ok.

I am considering inviting a reporter or two as well that expressed interest in what we do after the Homer Winter King Derby.

Count me in.  Be my first foray into the salt, so all the backup will be great.

Great!  Glad you can make it!  It is MUCH less daunting if you go in a group.  Cook Inlet learning curve can be steep...frankly its steeper if you have been out in a powerboat because the impacts are much worse in a kayak from a wind current perspective.

Obvisously your odds increase the more range you have, but I'd do this out of a packraft if I didn't have a kayak.  It's just the less mobile you are, you have to better utilize the current wind and currents to your advantage instead of disadvantage.

I won't get there until Saturday sometime -- so I'm going to horn in on Matt's camping spot!

It sounds kind of silly to the rest of us that camping spots are in short supply in AK. :-)

Media ... In some ways it's cool to introduce others but in some ways it's kinda neat being in a secret club as well. Kinda like "you need to find us" kinda deal. I dunno.

Course maybe if we had some numbers too us we could voice out concerns when it comes to fishing closures. Like the mile out crap.

Swung by Whiskey Gulch y'day on way down to Homer. A good bit of the camping area is underwater. Inlet was flat as glass.
Good things come to those that wade.
