It's that time of the year when there are some big stripers around crashing through schools of bunker looking for a meal.   I went out yesterday morning, right in front of JFK airport and had 3 hours of some insane action.  It took me about an hour to find a school of bunker that looked a little more active then others and then it was game on.   I wound up landing about 15 bass for the morning, all between 38" and 43".  I would snag the bait with a weighted treble hook and then transfer over to a single hook with a 3 oz. weight.  Drop it down and wait for the line to start peeling.  Here  is a picture from yesterday.

It was just a couple weeks ago that the same fish were hitting lures about 15 miles away in aritan Bay,  on the NJ side.  Here is a picture from a couple weeks ago.

NICE.  Tried a few times when I lived back that way to catch some stripers, but no joy.  Same with the blue fish.  Got a bunch of dog-fish sharks though.

Going to try for some here in the next couple of weeks on the Smith River(Oregon). Their starting to drop down into the salt to eat the shad and the smolts.
