I'm in. The wife and I have reservations at Chinook Bend, and I spent a good chunk of Sunday getting my boat ready. This sounds like a fantastic group, and I'm looking forward to meeting all of you. While I'll have a wetsuit, air horn, PFD and flag, this will be my first time in the ocean. If anyone's rounding up a group of newbies, I'd sure appreciate the company. See you there!
What time will you be in town? There is going to be some pre fishing going on Friday  morning. That would be a great time to get yourself comfortable with ocean conditions before the tourney on Saturday.

Thanks! That's a great idea. Unfortunately, we've got a full workday to get through Friday before we come up. I'm feeling good about the forecast so far, and I've paddled offshore in warmer climes a couple of times, minus the fishing gear. That said, it would be great to connect with someone Saturday who has a marine radio and knows the area. I'm not looking to hone in on anyone's secret spot, but if anybody wants to join me leaving the harbor and point me in the right direction, I'd be much obliged.

I bought a pair of marine radios so I have one to borrow. They are not the highest wattage but it should get us by being that there will be 60+ others weirdos out there. Just track me down Friday night. I am getting in Thursday so I will be all set up

We're at Yurt E8 in sunset bay if anyone wants to stop by.

Also, does anyone have a spare dry suit I could borrow?

I don't have a spare drysuit. I have my XL kokatat that I intend to wear for ORC. I have a 7mm long john style wetsuit that I used to dive in. I used that before I got the dry suit. It wasn't awesome but It made me feel safer than waders and a belt. You are welcome to use that if you can't find anything.

Awesome -- Thanks!

The conditions in those pictures seem pretty good to me.. and yet the Coast Guard still has a restriction on vessels less then 20 ft.

How is the wind?

How is the wind?

It's probably because of the wind.  Lincoln City is currently at 24 mph with gusts at 36.

***** IMPORTANT REMINDER *****

I'd like to remind everyone of the following requirements during the contest:

- Everyone must follow the standard Depoe Bay protocols when leaving or entering the bay.  If you don't have a VHF, you must exit and/or enter with someone who does.

- No fishing is allowed in the channel between the bay entrance and the buoys

- When heading out, keep to one side of the channel or the other so powerboats are not inconvenienced.

- When crossing the channel, do so as though it were a freeway.  Look, look, look again and then get to the other side.

A little bit of forethough and consideration goes a long way toward cementing our relationship with guys who've been using this port for decades.  Thanks!!

***** IMPORTANT REMINDER *****

Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things you didn't do than by the ones you did do. So throw off the bowlines. Sail away from the safe harbor. Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover.  --Mark Twain
