Listen to Allan, he knows what he's talking about!

That's a great solution.  Didn't think those Cam cleat worked that way - with the line coming in at 90degrees.  Tested it on my Trolley Cam cleat and works great that way.  I can't imagin a quicker release...actually wonder if that's too easy to release? I can just see me releasing that line on accident.

That float will sink with the weight of the wet rope and winder and if you have to quick release, bye bye everything..

and a quick release need to be like a half a second deal, just grab and release untying or un clipping a beener is not fast enough..

Nice pics Scott.  The only difference in mine is that I connected the clip to the burried end of my anchor line on the spool.  I have to clip it to one of the holes on my reel when retreiving my anchor line but it allows me to secure the anchor line during transport so I don't have the potential for a birdsnest forming in my trunk or garage.
When anchoring, to stop the line from spooling out of the reel, I take a bite of line and feed it thru one of the holes in the spool.  Then, I take the clip (the one connected to the burried end of my anchor line) and clip onto the bite.

I'm sure you could tie a slip knot off to that cleat.

All my knots are "slip knots"!  :D  Did you notice the overuse of Zip Ties?

Actually that's a great idea,  don't need to spend more money on cleats, and I've actually used that cleat for some other things that have been handy already.  Now, just need to get a bigger float.

Just realized I totally hijacked Carls original post - hope this discussion helped Carl. :icon_pirat:

Those winders are nice huh? Thanks Brian. I didn't look that close at Brians at Willamette, but i thought it would be alot bigger then it actually is. It's pretty compact and holds quite a bit of rope. Great find.

I also abondoned my little spool of line in those pictures and went with an electric code spool like Brian and Spot are using (This was my 5th try at a spool - think I finally got it).

Geez this is hard to say without a picture.  Let me know if you need one.

If anyone has an extra one of these spools, I'd be happy to swap you for a beverage or two. I'm sure I'll be working on the anchor soon enough.

I don't have an extra cord winder, but you can get them at Lowe's for about $5-$7.

Take a look at Ace Hardware too.  I found one that's a little smaller in diameter but easily holds 300ft. of line.

I removed the "feet" from mine with a saw and file.  They got in the way when winding.

Scott,

I am glad you hijacked this one,  you got many of the unasked questions I have been pondering about the anchor rig answered!  COSSBAYYACKER thanks for the web site with the RIVETS and other parts.  I am going to be burning up some serious WAF points between that and the AOTY sign up.

I got a baggy full of those expando rivets from Captain Dick's.  I have a few extras if someone wants me to send them some.

Hey you all,

Pretty much a preference question if you ask me. I've never seen any problems with either. If you really wanted to get into a discussion about them I think a weaker padeye makes better sense. That way if it got under a heavy stress situation it would break and not end up ripping out and leaving jagged holes in your yak. But then again I've never seen that happen either. :D They just don't go under much stress.
