I see a lot of horror stories on the web about Li-on batteries not meeting spec.  Here's one example ... http://ve2zaz.net/blog/index.php?/archives/13-A-super-cheap-6800-mAh-Li-Ion-12V-battery-pack.html

Do you have any sense for how the 9800 mAh battery you use meet spec?  Where did you get them and about how much are they?

I didn't do measurements, but my 9800 powered my hummingbird for 4 days on a row, averaging around 3 hours per trip

Dude, I'm asking about Li-ion, not SLA's.   :P

Thanks.  I have a 597 HD CI running on a new 7Ah and I think I get 16 hours, which is about right compared to what you get with a 9Ah.

I have a 10000mah Li battery (http://www.amazon.com/Anker-10000mAh-Portable-Thunderbolt-Incredible/dp/B005NGKR54/ref=sr_1_7?ie=UTF8&qid=1369798025&sr=8-7&keywords=anker+lithium) and  I used it for about 8-9 hours two weekends ago at the how event, then for about 8 hours Kokanee fishing this past weekend.  I turned it off, but if I remember right, it had two of the four charge indicator lights still lit. I don't know how accurate the lights are, though. The FF I was using was an Eagle Cuda 300.  I would love to push it further, but I don't want to be out of luck the next time out.

From that model's owners manual.

Quote
Current drain:................170 ma lights off; 240 ma lights on

Even at 240 mA, you should get 40+ hours out of that thing.  Please take one for the team and push it further.

I will throw myself on that grenade and try to fish as much as possible the next couple weeks.  I will start Friday for sturgeon and bass this weekend.

That's not the el cheapo blue brick battery you get on ebay, I think you can count on ~40 hours out of that.  Go for it dude.

BTW, that's a LiPo battery, not the cheaper Li-ion battery.

To me it was cheaper because I didn't have to buy all the other components and a charger.  Just my little Plano waterproof tackle box to put it in, some hot glue, solder, flat wire connectors, scraps of foam, and a dab of marine goop to seal the hole where the wires come out.
