Dude---that's not much of an introduction.
This site is full of helpful people. But details are where it's at...what are yours' ?
Life is short---live it tall.

Be kinder than necessary--- everyone is fighting some kind of battle.

Sailors may be struck down at any time, in calm or in storm, but the sea does not do it for hate or spite.
She has no wrath to vent. Nor does she have a hand in kindness to extend.
She is merely there, immense, powerful, and indifferent

Welcome!!  The season is just getting rolling!! Just survive?? You can do MUCH better than that!  What kind of kayak do you have? And what general area?

I have a few websites that might be of interest though its specific to south central Alaska.

http://alaskakayakfisher.com
http://guidesak.blogspot.com
http://www.youtube.com/guidesak

And some super old non kayak fishing reports of mine covering 1995 to 2004 though the 2002-2004 suffered due to getting married but since have jettisoned the anchor and life is so much better.lol.

There are probably a dozen of us here on this site active in Alaska.  Let us know how we can help.

Welcome... Big fish await! Are you at JBER or elsewhere? If you're an angler, you're going to fall in love with this place. Just took one 30" rainbow for me... 30 years ago! Come fish with one of us.

thanks all.

cardinal, I have been following your blogs and it has made me pull the trigger on a kayak.

I live in Eagle River, stationed at JBER for a while more.  I have an eddyline 12 foot caribbean.  still looking at what fish finder I would like to put on the yak.

had my maiden voyage two weekends ago and other than a skate I was smoked, but it was a blast. last weekend went down to deep creek again and landed my first halibut. not as big as all the ones I saw posted from last week but it was a blast.

well I hope to see you all out and about.

Well you seem to have a great kayak and you are getting your feet wet.  That's the key.

As jealous as I am over Kenai_guy's halibut this past weekend, i know they will be there for me anytime between now and Late fall.  So this weekend if Iget time, i plan to try and launch from the east side of Resurrection bay down Nash road, and paddle north towards resurrection River until i begin seeing the silt line.  The silt will be on top of the saltwater and depending on where I mark fish, I plan to use a downrigger and slow troll a dodger and herring rig with a long single hook gamakatsu 4/0 hook trailing the whole thing.  The plan is to try and hook a sockeye that willingly will strike something ala Lake Washington fishery.

I'm dying to get a side imaging hummingbird unit.  I think my recent experience of being unable to stay on top of  bait ball is the main reason.  But fortunately or unfortunately my $100 Hummingbird Pirhana max (160 or 180??) seems to be working fine.  I can see down to 550 ft through my hull which is good enough for shrimping and the deep fishing I currently am doing.  I am thinking about stepping up so I can fish down to 1,500ft.  More on that if I can accomplish it successfully.  I will muscle it up for now but if successful, invest in an electric reel.  There has to be fish that are unexplored close to port at those depths.  Regular sport fisherman don't fish that deep, and neither does the commercial fleet close to port.  Halibut, black cod, and shortraker rockfish would be the primary targets. Would love to hook a sleeper shark just to see it and film one.

oops, I digress!  WELCOME!  Hope to run into you on the water here soon!!!
