Hey all - I did a donation kayak fishing trip for the Native Fish Society and the winning bidder wants to fly fish for carp sometime in June. This is something I have also wanted to do but I don't know many locations around Portland and it would be great for the person to at least see a couple carp. If anyone is willing to provide some recommendations I would appreciate it. We will be using Hobies so the water cannot be super shallow. You can PM if you prefer. Again, I appreciate any suggestions.

The lakes on Sauvie are pretty solid bets.  Shallow, though.  But worth looking into.  Read up on the lakes on this guy's blog:

I've seen a ton of them at Smith and Bybee Lakes (near the confluence of the Willamette and Columbia) but never got them to bite (using bait). I saw a guy in a canoe there bow-fishing for them.

A few years ago when I lived in Yorba Linda, CA......on a 15 acre lake, hot dogs were favored by both Bass and believe it or not, Carp......some Carp went over 25 pounds......the largest bass was 14 pounds.
This was a barbless hook, catch and release lake (East Lake).....
The Bass and Catfish also loved the ducklings......they would disappear from the surface as these larger fish would feed on them :banjo:

Thanks for the tips and links. I'll do some scouting on the island and post some reports.

Carp on the fly is a blast.  They are some really strong fish.

Went to Sauvie's and found some carp at Round Lake but the water had the visibility of a fresh puddle. Not certain if I want to put my kayaks in that. Looking at the gorge for the trip. Hope to post a successful video. Thanks again for the tips and if anyone has others, I would appreciate it.
