Good day everyone,
Ok here goes. I have been holding out to find a used Revo but that does not seem like it is going to happen so the wife is going hold off on getting her yak and I have been given the OK to just purchase one. Being new to Kayaking and Kayak fishing and not wanting to blow any unnecessary money I am turning to you to give suggestions on what items I should look at getting first and suggestions on brands. I know this could be like a Ford / Chevy thing. I really just don’t want to buy stuff based on what a shop says I should get just to find out it really does not work well.

I think I have my heart set on a Revo 13 and with the cost of the Hobies I am not going to have a ton of cash left over.
Thanks in advance for any help you can provide,
DemonFish

Where do you want to fish? Do you have rods and tackle? Assuming you want to fish from Depoe to the  deschutes like the rest of us I'd go in this order. And I do own and love my revo 13

Revo 13
Pfd
MH 7'6" to 8'6" rod with a decent reel
Waders and dry top or dry suit
Turbo fins and sailing rudder
Game clip, rod holder
Camping registration to ORC
Fish finder

With the right rod and reel combo you can use it for salmon, sturgeon, and bottom fish. Check with Jake at next adventure to see if he may have some demo boats coming up but you're probably going to be better off just buying new. If you love and use the revo as much as many of us, the sting of the price tag will fade fast.

You can catch plenty of fish off a stock Revo 13 without fancy bells and whistles. That being said Noah's advice is very good too.

A lot depends on what kind of fishing you are planning on doing. Theres are at least a few threads about rigging the Revo 13, look at the one Romanian Redneck posted

RR I was about to link that!

Check out this thread for some awesome ideas on the actual rigging of your kayak.

Noahs list look about right, I would add a cart to transport your yak from the car to the water. It may not look far but makes everything easier. I know some people have made their own or just dragged their yak, but I like to make things easy.

A buddy took me to Hagg on one of his Revo's and I think ill head back there a few times just to feel comfortable with everything. After that I would like to head out Sturgeon fishing and maybe some Salmon as well. After I get better and meet some people I would love to learn to ocean fish. To be honest my wife just wants ocean fish :-) so I have the push from her to get comfortable ASAP.

As far as poles I think I'm good there but hey might be another reason to get a few more  >:D
I have been big in sturgeon fishing and pan fish so that gear I have. I will need to get ocean and salmon gear when I get to that point in experience.

Here is a list of things I currently own from your list. Sorry if I'm so random at things I am so excited and freaked out at the same time. I feel sorry for my wife lol.
- Paddling pants and coat
- Waders
- Poles / Reels and some tackle
- PFD

For the ocean I would recommend a dry top to put on top of the waders. Andy & Bax carries OS Systems dry tops and they run about $150.00.

Its nice to have a bunch of fishing poles, but like Noah noted, a MH rod with a good reel will cover most fishing for Salmon on most ocean fishing. I have an Okuma Celio 8'6" MH rod with an Okuma Convector reel for salmon on rock/bottom fish. It may be a little light for halibut though/

All good advice above. I meant my list as a progressional list, so if you cant afford everything at once just start at the top and work your way down the list. Adding a cart and a radio for the ocean is a great idea. The OS tops are really sweet too, great option if you already have waders too. If you have proper immersion wear lots of the guys would be happy to show you around the ocean, including me.

DF,
Good marriage when your wife compromises in your favor like that... sounds like a long term keeper.

Sounds like someone needs to hit Fisherman's for their Father's Day sale.

Well Fisherman's is going to have to wait for another month or 2. I woke up and the wife told me to buy both the outback and revo and I had to jump on that before she switched her mind. I also picked up the turbo fins and sailing rudder along with a cart. The rest will have to wait just a bit longer. Tomorrow ill hit Hagg with a buddy and get them out. I think ill be in kiss up mode for a few weeks...
