I've been placing updated plots of the Bonneville dam fish count on the Drano thread but thought I should place new updates in a more obvious place.  I'm also going to add a plot for the Willamette Falls count as well.  If anyone has another fish count or species they'd like plotted let me know.

Another good source of "on the fly" custom web plots is here...

Obviously I didn't make the Drano trip this weekend - not happy about it but had to put in time with the wife on the nice days.

I'm working on planning a trip out for next week (I'm off Monday through Thursday).  I'm wondering how long this spring run thing lasts and if the numbers get even higher or not?  I new to the salmon fishing game.  I want to give it a try but I want to give it the best shot possible because I hate getting skunked.  FYI - I've been out four times this year and still caught 0!

I understand it all has to do with mother nature, the sea lions, something with the dust in rings around Uranus or something but just a general idea would be helpful at this point.   ;D

I would like to see shad counts if available.  I doubt I'll get to fish in that area in the near future, but I used to live in Portland and loved going shad fishing.  Maybe I can live vicariously through graphs.

I've been thinking about adding shad and maybe steelhead plots for both sites.   Right now the shad are no where to be seen so I won't have to worry about that for a little while.

A very cool thread and idea you've started here B. Are you doing this all manually or do you have something programmed? It would be cool to have an onsite feed for all waterways (Or/Wa) that count fish runs on one page. But then again that's me... 8)

The Bonneville Dam does have an RSS feed and I could write something to do this automatically, but I discovered that the RSS feed is a day behind on the counts (I'm too impatient).  Anyway, I have a template set up and I simply open some web pages, read some numbers and append them to my plot data, export the graph, and replace it in the post.  Takes me all of about 5 mins to do the updates.  If I skip a day here and there you'll have to forgive me.

Down and back up again at Bonneville.  Looks like we might be starting to see the second wave coming through.

I hope this is the second pulse of the first run... those #'s don't look much like the predicted record run of springers.  36k fish were supposed to be headed to Drano alone...

If you look at the historical plots from Bonneville, the springers often have a first wave of a few thousand followed a few weeks later by a much larger pulse.  I'm hoping it jumps up dramatically in the next few days.  Anyone up for some mid-week Drano once the numbers start showing up?  I can't imagine trying on a weekend. I guess I'll start a new thread when that happens.

Okay, I just checked the count from last night.  The file that I'm using to update these plots is on my home computer so I can't update it now, but... the count yesterday was

2618.

I added this to the first post with the graphs as well.  With the fish count in the thousands you can actually see a fish or two swim by every now and then.

Once again the count from Bonneville came in too late last night for me to update the chart at home.  I guess it takes some time to count these fish when the numbers are up.

Yesterdays count was 2708.  I'll update the chart tonight.

I haven't seen an exceptional reports from Drano yet.  But then again, maybe they're just trying to keep the crowds at bay for as long as possible.

Wow, that's really up there!  I was toying with running out there on Friday morning, any takers?
