Heroes on the Water Portland is pleased to offer the NWKA family custom sized kayak anchors to order. Choose your size and add the option of a breakaway attached if desired. 100% of every dollar raised will go to fund the Heroes on the Water Portland. After experimenting with a number of different designs our, HOW master fabricator Mr. Wobbler has come up with the below design. It works well on both the Willamette and Columbia rivers. It's grabby enough to dig into the mud bottom of the Columbia but not so much so that it gets stuck on the rocky areas of the Willamette. They should also work pretty well as drift anchors.

Please reply below or PM if you're interested in one. They are available for pick up in the Portland area, Next Adventure's monthly seminars and ORC. However, they are pre-order only so please let us know ASAP if you're interested.

The prices are as follows:

5 Lbs or less-$20
6-7 lbs-$25
8-9-lbs-$30
10-12 lbs-$35

Add $2 for a metal eyelet and $4 for the two eyelet breakaway design. Additional donations are also greatly appreciated and are even tax deductible.

Please let me know if you have any questions and thanks for supporting Heroes on the Water!

If you guys do have plenty of anchors but would still like to help out either the HOW Portland or HOW NWest Chapter you can always send a few bucks via paypal. Just click the link below and when you get to the second screen add a note in the "Add special instructions to the seller" section that you want your donation to go to either the Portland or the NWest Chapter. 100% of all donations will go directly the local chapters. Thanks for supporting HOW!

For lazy/newb/search-unwilling, is there a hard and fast rule to abide by when choosing weight?

There isn't a rule I'm aware of, it just depends on where you want to anchor and what type you're using. If you're on a flat lake a couple of lbs will do, for a drift anchor 7-10 lbs seems to be about right. For the Willamette 5-6 lbs will hold one kayak pretty well, 8-10 lbs will hold 3 or more kayaks. Some people also like to run a small anchor and then add some chain to it. I haven't tried it before but I'm thinking about trying it with a 3 lb anchor and then 3-4 lbs of chain added. Usually you were stuck using a claw if you wanted to go that route, which are fantastic at getting hung up on rocks. I'm thinking you need a 2 pounder to setup a drift anchor on your paddle board for the little muddy :)

I've already got 2 heavy anchors + a 2lb for lakes.  If I lose another, I'll be making an order.

Is somebody missing a jello mold?

You can see the molds in the upper left corner of the last picture. Pretty smart and cheap if you aren't making a master and sand molds.
Relax. You'll live longer.

I've got a scotty drift anchor attachment you can borrow to play around with if you want. Could you mount a scotty mount on the rear of your board? Or would it have to amount onto your crate?

Yup, jello mold anchor specials!

I'd probably sink a couple Mighty Mounts, with self-tapping screws, into the rear end of Piggy. Onto the Mighty Mounts, I'd attached the Scotty?  Maybe? Or something like that...

It's a bundt!

Okay, actually it's a jello mold, but it looks like a bundt.

When's the deadline? I might want some light ones. I just got mine set up with Scotty's and 10 lb. pyramids and they seem way too heavy so far with a few trips under my belt.

No real deadline.

I'll take two 5lb. with the regular loop. Do you use that Paypal link above to pay?

Can folks PM orders to Wobbler and pick 'em up at ORC?
