Well, I went out this morning, with the only goal in mind to pull in our string for the season.  I didn't even have bait with me as I was short on time.  The string had been in awhile and I wasn't expecting any crab.  Imagine my surprise when the first pot came up LOADED.  There were 15 keepers in that pot, most going better than 6 3/4".

Perhaps I'm a little slow...

But how do you catch crab without bait? Also, what is being referred to as your "string"?

(This sounds like Jedi-level crabbing to me.)  ;D
My wife thinks fishing is merely guys wandering around like idiots swinging sticks in the air. Many of my trips prove how smart she really is.

I leave a string of pots working full time during the season and check them regularly.  When the string isn't checked for a while, the crabs leak out of it, and I usually don't pull any crabs in.  Today was different!

OK, duh, that totally makes sense.

I'm really looking forward to the opener of crab season up here.  Saved carcs from Hobuck for bait.

When's your opener.  The end of our season is June 30.

July 1 at 7AM for most of the Puget Sound.  MA-7 opens July 15 in the southern portion, August 15 in the northern portion.  Regardless it's only Thursday-Monday each week.  Pots have to be out of the water Tuesday and Wednesday.
