I was thinking about getting some of these to help with loading and unloading from my trailer/truck roof.

The problem is that  my rack bars are the "wing style" and not the round yakama.

Have any of you modified these to fit the different types of bars?

Do any of you recommend NOT buying these?  How do they work for an Outback?

Thanks!

I can't speak to how well the rollers work with your Outback, but for adapting to the load bars, Yakima also sells different flavors of their Might Mounts.  Example at AK:

I'm using the 23H to attach tubes to my Rav4 factory rack - works reasonably well.

Well hell, I already made the order and didn't see these.  If I can't figure something out, I'll order those adapters as well.

thanks for the link.

I know that adapters for square bars are included, at least.  I don't remember if there were other options included.

I had a pair of the rollers and ended up returning them.  They don't roll very well.  Maybe they'd work better on a non-round roof rack, but I ended up just getting a second set of the saddles and putting felt on the back ones.  Works a lot better for me.

Felt on the back ones is a good idea.  Right now it's rubber and dragging the yak across them is a pain.

I have had the bully rollers for 7 years now and I love them. I have had them on several types of roof racks. I found that they are really good at fitting many types of racks with the addition of the mighty mount kit. The biggest problem Ive found is fitting them to the crossbars that are not semetrical in cross section (wing or tapered). While them fit it's often loose or at a weird angle. A very good solution was to go to Home Depot and find some of the densest tubing you can find and use chunks of that to "shim" up the back side of the "wing" until it is an oval shape in cross section. Then use a bit of electrical tape to secure it and then attack the rollers using the mighty mounts. The pressure will be equally distributed across the cross bar and the rollers will be at a proper angle. I've used the mighty mounts to fit cross bars on a Nissan xterra, Chevy Tahoe, and trailblazer and I currently use them on an aftermarket TracRac on my f-150. Them are a huge help getting my OK big game up on the roof with little effort , never ever had a problem with them not rolling, unless the wheels were locked to keep them from rolling. Hope this helps!

I use the Hully Rollers on my vehicle in the back to make loading the Outback easier.  Do not let the Outback sit on the rollers for days at a time or the wheels will dent into the hull.  I slipped a piece of 1/2"  plywood about a foot or more long and about 3- 4 inches wide between the wheels and the yak to distribute the weight and that seemed to take care of the problem.  The wheel dents did come out on their own after a while.

That's good to know.  I haven't had any problems with my current ones.  I'll keep this in mind.
