Not sure where to post this, but it has to do with my safety gear, so here goes...

Last Saturday I thought my ling cod had dropped its lunch already before I pulled it in the boat, but - surprise! - it wasn't done and I got a lap full of regurgitated bait fish, shrimp, and what looked like squid or something. Anyway it reeked worse than I remembered from power boat fishing years ago, but I washed it off best I could and suffered through it. I take pretty good care of my neoprene (boots, suit, gloves), washing it out with fresh water and letting it drip-dry inside, etc. every time, but in spite of all that anything that had that ling cod puke on it still reeks.

Any pointers on something that will take the smell out without damaging the neoprene? I saw some recommendations on surfing sites but I figured I'd ask here since it's kind of a specific thing.

Learn to love the smell......I'd suggest washing it down as best you can and then putting it outside in the sun for a couple of days. The radiation from the sun should take care of it.

Spray it with axe body spray. That overpowers every and any smell on the planet.

A guide friend of mine swears by Lemon Joy to clean all his gear. Nothing else comes close to coping with the slime and smell. You can read many similar rave reviews on ifish.com I've been using it ever since. They say it needs to be the original thing- not the "Ultra" altough its kinda hard to find. I found some at the Grocery Outlet.

Dive shops sell stuff called Sink the Stink which gets rid of moldy smells in neoprene. It might help this. Also, I would try wetting the spots that stink and pouring salt on it to effectively cure whatever is on it. Let the salt dry onto the neoprene and rinse it in fresh water to get rid of the salt.
Relax. You'll live longer.

Lucky man.  I get queasy virtually every time I'm on the salt.  Haven't chummed from the yak yet, but PB's get me nearly every time.  Only times I've escaped chumming was a halibut charter a couple years ago (seas were probably 2-3' tops, still got green around the gills though), and a salmon trip with my kids later that same summer.  I've even chummed with a Scop Patch in 6-7' seas.

Ouch! I hope I'm not jinxing my luck by these posts.... :) I have gotten momentarily queesy if I look down too long at tying up a rig or whatever, but it goes away quickly when I look up and doesn't stick, but that smell... man that was too much! My wife has been having a really tough time of it in the kayak. She's trying some various tactics so we'll see if anything works.

I don't get sick from my kayak unless I'm looking at my FF too much. I have gotten sick on a boat but its always from fiddling with tangled gear. I have never thought to try patches. I would rather not take Dramamine...I don't need to get sleepy out on the water. I tend to get sleepy anyway... The gentle rocking from swells gets me super relaxed sometimes! I wonder if anyone else gets that?

No experiences getting overly sleepy on the kayak yet, but I used to fall asleep in my PB anchored in the Columbia pretty much every time if there was a swell and the fish weren't biting much. Sleep like a baby!

Bonine (which the same as "Less Drowsy Dramamine") works reasonably well for me, and doesn't make me at all sleepy or feeling drugged out.
