I am looking for SOT, have paddled a few, most I'm interested in don't exist for demo purposes.  I am looking at a 13-14 foot kayak, Tarpon 14, Quest 13, Trident 13.
I am also 275 lbs, so I presume ANY SOT with my weight would produce a "wet boat".
Hobie Quest 13's are available in Seattle for 680, which is a nice price.
Does anyone have a Tarpon 14 in the Bellingham area that wouldn't meeting up with me for a quick test paddle?  No 14's around at all that I have seen.
Thoughts and suggestions are encouraged,
Thanks,
Bob

Not a Tarpon, but I'd be happy to let you demo my Prowler 13 (not a Trident).  Probably have to wait until after the ORC (July 13) unless you'd like to meet at La Connor over the weekend of July 6.

Sumpnz,
Thanks.  I'm going to be in Campbell River fishing with my Dad over the 4th.  Sorry, it will be from an aluminum boat/motor.  Kayak fishing in Campbell River might interesting when the 6 knot current kicks in.
Question: I believe the prowler version of the Trident has molded in foot braces versed foot pegs?  If so, does this impact your paddling?  I've sat in one, but molded foot pegs just didn't fit me.

After the 4th I may get back with you, thanks again for the note.

The Prowler was the predecessor to the Trident, and is no longer in production.  Yes, it has the molded foot braces.  I've done 10+miles in a day.  Seems to work well enough.  Never tried the adjustable pegs like on the Trident so I can't really compare.  I'm 6' and 205-ish.

It looks like West Marine has the Prowler ready to ship in the 13 footer. Several on eBay at 15.

Thanks for the input.
I made the plunge and bought a Hobie Quest 13.  Nice boat.  Scuppers leak. Crap.  Hobie states it's fixable.  Dealer where I bought it isn't a dealer anymore.  (Ballard Inflatables, they won't lift a finger after selling me a dangerous boat) Now I have a potentially good boat that I have to hassle with to get it working.  Crap again.
Let's see, the pinks run through August.......maybe I'll be out there for the end of it!!

They say "You get what you pay for".  Yea, but sometimes you don't even get that.

Enough bitchin'.  I look forward to some positive exchanges with this group.

Sounds like you need an ally...another Hobie dealer to perhaps step up and help you navigate the process. Surely something can be worked out.  Ridiculous that your new boat leaks.

Some other guy went to the Seattle dealer it worked for him. I'd try that.

I see where Matt Miller answered fallcitybob's cry for help on the Hobie Forum.

Unfortunately I believe that Dr. Derek had his last day at the Kayak Shed recently. However, his replacement is none other than our own, Hobie Flying, Langcod. You might give the shop a call or shoot him a PM.

Thanks to all for your time and comments. Happily, Hobie is going to stand behind this 9 year old "new" boat.  Good one Hobie!  Yes, 9 years old, surprise to me.  Repairs coming my way.
Also, hats off to Hobie Cats Northwest in Seattle, they state they will assist me as the dealer while I work this out with Hobie Corp.  They get nothing but my gratitude for doing this.

Raise a glass to HC Northwest and Hobie.  I will be.

Cheers,
