Question for those of you who have had more experience with Kayak ordering:

I ordered my Kayak almost a month ago.  it shipped from LA on the 11th of June...and has still not arrived at the shop i ordered from.

I have a hard time fathoming it would take 3 weeks for it to get here once in the shipping system, i could have drove there and back a dozen times by now.  At what point do i suspect foul play and ask for my money back?  or is this just normal shipping on a kayak?

Who did you order with?
I'd start with a phone call to their customer service rep and not hang up until you get an update.

Would seem normal to someone in Alaska. Outside though, seems long once it has shipped.

I've ordered off eBay before. It only took about three days Forward Air from Sacramento. Ask that shop if they send a request to build the kayak on each order. Lol. Seriously, three weeks seems ok but at this stage the seller should be telling you when it will arrive. I'd be suspect if they could not tell you precisely when delivery will happen.

when i placed the order, the shop said it should arrive sometime within the next week or two.  at the end of week 1 i called in, and he said it might show up that day.  3 days later i called, and he said it was stuck in a transit wearhouse in CA and he would keep calling Malibu to get updates.  at the end of week 2 i called, and was told it should show up sometime within the next week or two.

I dont want to run the guys shop under the bus just yet, because i do understand things like this can happen outside of his control...however, if the kayak doesn't show up today, i'll have lost my window to get it on the ocean before ORC and will be sitting the event out.  As of Monday i work everyday up till the 12th.

But what i really dont want to miss is the sockeye run that is flooding the columbia right now...i live 10 minutes from putting in on the columbia, and the bank fishing has been terrible this year...seems like all the fish (spring run too) are running considerably deeper than they have in past years on this section of the river.

That sucks man. I can only imagine how torturous it must feel. Every day you don't have your kayak feels like an eternity! I would start raging soon! I'm terribly impatient though.

It sounds the shop is powerless and that the supplier could be the source of delays... Or at least knows more. What kind of boat? I've been liking the looks of those X13 boats.

It sounds like an issue with the trucking company they used. You might call the shop and ask them which carrier they used and ask them for the PRO number. If you get that you may be able to call the trucking company directly or check the status of the PRO on the company's website.

Yeah, this can be normal.  It's likely traveling by a series of semi trucks.  Not sure why it often takes so long, but it does.  It seems as though the boats weight until a truck is ready to roll your direction.  Do you know the freight company doing the transporting?  Is it Old Dominion? They're typical carriers around here.  They have great customer service, but you need to initiate it.  Get the transport company's info and call them.  I've seen this process take a month.

Mine took a month and half to get to me. It went from San Diego to North Bend Or. The kayak traveled the whole west coast and then some. Sometimes flying with layovers at various major airports and sometimes by semi. I had the tracking number, daily I would check on it. The wife and I would just laugh when we found out where it would be that day. And when I say the whole west coast I mean the whole west coast of North Amercia and couple of towns in BC Canada. Talk about racking up the air miles.
