Since the ORC is coming up and it's a single heaviest fish contest, I got to thinking.

Is there a way to keep your cabbie or ling from puking? Is there any rhyme or reason as to what situations trigger this response more than others?

Also, are the bellies of winning fish inspected for "lead poisoning"?

My wife thinks fishing is merely guys wandering around like idiots swinging sticks in the air. Many of my trips prove how smart she really is.

 Clamp their lips shut....

As far as "lead poisoning"......c'mon man....that shouldn't be a problem-------I hope not anyway.

Life is short---live it tall.

Be kinder than necessary--- everyone is fighting some kind of battle.

Sailors may be struck down at any time, in calm or in storm, but the sea does not do it for hate or spite.
She has no wrath to vent. Nor does she have a hand in kindness to extend.
She is merely there, immense, powerful, and indifferent

True, two birds; one stone.

Assuming a dramamine pill weighs ~.1 of an ounce, there are 12 tablets in a tube, (but I keep two for myself) and the tube itself weighs an ounce; I can get my underling to weigh-in two pounds heavier by force feeding it ~16 tubes of Dramamine.  ;D

Perfect crime!

Hold them vertical so the puke has to work against gravity?
Relax. You'll live longer.

I know, I know... shouldn't be a problem. However, these days a person's "word" is in a pretty sad state...

Oh man, if that happened it could turn ugly. I hope nobody is stupid enough to try to rig the weigh in.

It's a natural defense reaction, so there's really no way to stop it.  But assuming it didn't barf, it won't likely be a deciding factor.  In years past the distribution of weights have been pretty well spread out IIRC.  I don't believe the differences between 1st, 2nd, 3rd, etc. were less than a few ounces, which is roughly the weight difference you'll see if your fish does toss its cookies.  Unless, of course, there is a legal sized crab in it's belly - but what are the chances of that happening?  ;)

What about bleeding your fish out? It doesn't seem like it would make much difference...except for the quality of fish for the taco madness.

the big ling I caught this summer had a 18-20" ling in its belly, it didn't puke that up but that fish probably weighed inat 17-18# without the stomach contents, 20+ with the stomach contents.  If I could catch a fish like that  on Saturday I would he one happy camper. Shoot I'll be happy just to catch a fish on Saturday ;)

I certainly would be in favor of having someone check all of the top 10 fish for legality and ethical condition.  Or at least any fish over, say 10lbs - that way you don't have to wait until after 2PM to fillet it if you came in early.  If the decision is to trust to people's honesty then I'm OK with that too.

Thanks Rawk, that's kinda what I thought.
But *IF* I catch a big'n (or one at all) and *IF* it pukes, and *IF* I used a ziplock bag to scoop up all the civiche and have it accompany my weigh-in, would it count?

I bled mine out last year on the water.  Next closest fish above me was Lee's ling.  I would have needed another 1lb 5oz to match his fish, so even if I hadn't bled mine out I would have still needed well over 1lb to catch up.  BUT, the difference between 10th and 11th place last year was, IIRC a fraction of an ounce.  In that case not bleeding would easily make the difference.

BTW my replies are meant to be funny with just slight undertones of seriousness.

I too am comfortable with trusting everyone's integrity. I don't expect to be on the podium anyhow. That way I'll be pleasantly surprised when I win the whole thing, and just *happen* to have room on my rack to take home a new Outback. LOL

Would you really want to scoop up the puke to gain a couple of ounces ??? Not me !!!!!!!!
