No salmon

Not sure if that is directed at the Bowman Bay launch.  If so, I didn't mean to fish Bowman Bay, just a nice launch location.  I must add I've never salmon fished in the area, but it is an easy 1 NM trip out to fish the channel south of Deception Island.

I have fished for salmon off Bush Point and the current to the north and south of the point is not bad.  Just don't get complacent or take a nap.  Nice launch at the restaurant.

There is a good launch at possession Pt for when the fish start turning the corner towards the Snohomish. Mutiny Bay has a launch and there isn't much current. Bush Pt has a decent launch but on a fairly strong incoming tide you can get real up close and personal with the launch float or the pilings in front of the B&B. Once launched at Bush the fishing is very good on the evening flood tide for pinks and later coho. At Lagoon Pt there are 3 places to launch. The south access is only 30' wide (end of road) and will require a lift over a couple logs. Not crowded on the flood but its elbow to elbow with buzz bombers on the ebb. Also the property owners on either side of the 30' strip will call the police if you set foot on their property. The middle launch at the breakwater is private. Lagoon Pt owners use only. The north access has more parking and will require a carry over several logs to get to the water. Once over the logs its easy. A lot of water moves around the point once the tide gets moving. Ft Casey has a good launch. A bit steep but its protected in the ferry harbor. The water really moves out in front of the entrance. There is a no fishing marine reserve just outside the harbor towards Lagoon. Next up is Ebey Landing. Again another carry down a short bank but is easily doable. There are a couple other available launch points at road ends before Oak Harbor but the the fishing is way off shore. West Beach and Bowman Bay have already been mentioned. If you launch at Coronet Bay do it on the flood and fish up towards Hope Island. The Skagit pinks really stage up in the bay below Ala Spit. The tide runs hard and you will have a tough go getting back until high slack and the ebb starts. The water really moves out and you don't want to miss the launch at Coronet on your return. If you do you end up going thru the pass and have to go around to West Beach and then you get a 3-4 mile carry or cart drag back up the roads.

Thanks for the detailed info Wolverine.  I plan on hitting West Beach tomorrow before high tide (10:15ish), fish the tide change, and possibly hang around for low tide.

I fished west beach yesterday evening for about 2 hours. Saw a total of about 6 jumpers at that time and had one up to the boat before I lost it. I'll be out again today but not sure what time. I was using a pink buzz bomb.

Just finished fishing West Beach, Deception Pass.  Great water, fog was thick at times (at 4:00 pm)...fishing...not so good 4+ hours on the water....1cabezon, 1 flounder, 1decent hit, 0 salmon.  Only saw a few rollers and jumpers and 1 fish caught from shore. Still had a great time and plan on going out when things heat up a bit more. If anyone is heading out there in the near future, let me know

For whatever reason, deception pass (west beach) has lagged the rest of the region in pink volume. Lagging no longer! I went out wednesday evening and this morning and it was red hot run 'n gun pink action with some coho mixed in.  It's such a blast I'm surprised WA's anti-fun agencies even allow it :P

Weather looking good this weekend!

I was out at Deception pass for a few days last week and fished it pretty hard with my brothers. I got my first kayak salmon, my first salmon on a fly rod, and ended up landing a total of 16, including 1 native silver(released).
In addition I also put my crab pots out for the first time and ended up with 13 keepers. We caught a bunch of cabbies as well, although they were all short. Awesome trip though! Definitely get out there if you can!
