I'm planning on fishing for pinks off the west side of Whidbey Island early next week. Any suggestions on good places to launch and fish? I'll be throwing  jigs and buzz bombs (and maybe trolling a white dodger/hoochie.). Thanks

I will probably launch from Bush Point on Mon to do some mooching for kings+cohos as well as casting/jigging for pinks.

Looks like two launches at Lagoon Point. One at E Seashore Ave/S Seashore Ave, and the other at Salmon St. I have no experience with Lagoon Point.

Thanks.  I might see you out there.  I think I'll launch at Bush Point and work the shoreline to about 120 foot depth-heading toward Lagoon.  Since I'm coming from the Everett area, i'm going to shoot for being on the water abiut an hour before the low pm tide. How are the currents off the point?

Depending on time of day, they can be ripping pretty strongly through there.

Lemme try this again...ft casey or deception pass are best bets for pinks with coho mixed in.

Easy launch from the parking lot at west beach at deception pass state park. Cornet bay can be too hairy with the pass current. Drop crab gear if you can!

Deception pass would be my first choice of anyplace in the region for targeting pinks. I'd be there this weekend if I was in town!  Let us know how ya do.

Btw bush point is a great place to fish but not from a kayak. DAMHIK :P

Thanks again Rory.  Looking at the regs more closely, Area 6 doesn't open until August 16.  double DAMHIK.  Looks like Fort Casey is calling me.

It opened July 1.  The salmon regs are super confusing for area 6 because of the selective/release chinook sub-areas.  doesn't affect pinks and coho.

I'm camping out at Deception pass in a few weeks,  I've fished at deception pass from shore, but it seems a little crazy from a kayak because of the currents. Do you just hit it before low tide and head in before things get moving too much? Or is there a place out of the current you can cast from? I had planned on taking the kayak so I could drop the crab pots and then just fish from shore, but if I could avoid the beach crowd altogether that would be awesome.

The currents aren't terrible off the west beach side.  as long as it's not a huge tide day.  definitely stay away from the pass itself.

Depending on where you want to fish you can also launch on the north side of the pass out of Bowman Bay with parking, boat ramp, and protected water.
