Orcas were spotted from Shilshole down to Vashon today.  I hope they're following the schools of salmon into the sound.

Check the Orca Network (http://www.orcanetwork.org/sightings/map.html)

I'm going to monitor the network tomorrow and if they seem within paddling range ... I'm off the chase them.  We saw them a couple weekends ago when we were in the San Juans, but that was from a big boat.  I'd really like to paddle with them.

Saw the pic in the paper beautiful, take a snap for us.  I would join you but I'm on kid duty today.   I think a front page shot of me and the kids in the middle of puget sound with orcas, would make my wife less than happy  :)

I was out Saturday between the shipwreck and Whidbey Island.  No salmon action but plenty of wildlife.  Those sea lions are sure getting big, they must be eating more than herring or candlefish.
No Orcas but a school of Dahl porpoise cruised by about 1/4 mi from me.  Nice to see the waters so active.
Even without the salmon it was a great day.  Warm and calm with a picture perfect sunset.

Good luck with your Orca search,

Kurt

Of course the day I first posted this, a pod was inside Elliott Bay in the afternoon.  They took off after that.   :(

How big was the school of Dahls?  They sure are a cool looking porpoise.

As far as I could tell it was about three.  Sometimes they are in dozens but this appeared to to be a seperated group.  Not really a school.
I have seen dozens of them riding the wake from boats (not from my kayak).
Still a great sight.

Any update on the orca pod?

I only know what is reported on http://www.orcanetwork.org/sightings/map.html. It seems to be updated every few days so is not "real time" and is only updated to the 24th right now.  No sightings in the Seattle area since the 22nd.

Cool deal on he Dahls!  One of my most vivid memories from childhood is running back to Shilshole from Jeff Head after a morning of fishing and seeing literally dozens of Dalhs.  Actually, I don't recall seeing them since.

It seems I see the Dahl's in the N. Sound, and farther out, most regularly. Saw some this weekend off Fort Casey, on Whidbey's west side. I remember seeing a bunch this spring when Fishin-T and I were out at Dungeness Spit.
