I went down to Astoria yesterday (Tuesday)  for a vice run and saw a lot of boats on the Colombia. There were about 15 boats east of the Astoria/Megler bridge on the Washington side and pretty near 50 out in Youngs Bay on the Oregon side. Looked for reports on various sites but it doesn't look too hot yet. Was wondering if any of our people have been out there so far this year?
I make this "vice run" about every 10 days (Getting single malt and smokes) so I think next time I'm going to take my Outback with me and give it a go around Grays Bay. Any intel from someone who has worked this fishery ?

I heard Youngs bay is fishing pretty well.   This is the last year it is going to be open for a while.

I am going to give Dismal Nitch area a try tomorrow.  Tried near the Skipannon today with no luck.  Didn't play long before deciding to try the salt.  I didn't see much action out there either.

By the way, wouldn't Grays harbor be too far upriver, as in upriver from the buoy 10 area cutoff?

Fished in a power boat around the CR buoy (ocean) fri, sat.Did pretty good...caught ALOT of barely small nooks.Mixed bag of keeper coho,1 nice nook(18lbs).Sunday fog kept us in the river by B10...not much happening, but we spent most of our time trying to figure out where we were. When I left for home thru Astoria there were alot of boats at the Youngs Bay area...Ithink thats what that is anyway...made me want to stop and look for  kayak access points but too tired. Wish I could have made Spots seminar...thinkin theres gonna be some good fishin down there pretty soon!

Not talking about Grays Harbor---Grays Bay...specifically west of Rocky Point to Knapton area. All part of the Buoy 10 area. There is a rough launch where hwy 410 comes down from Nasselle to the river that opens up a lot of water. I see a few PB's using that launch--apparently not too many yakers make use of it....yet.

Grays Harbor--inside of Buoy 13 doesn't open until September 16th. And if I'm not in Alaska working--I will be fishing there.

Here is a link to some good reports off ifish......http://www.ifish.net/board/showthread.php?t=461656

Dang Mark.... You should have hit the seminar last night.  I gave away some personal secrets on this area....  >:D

I've heard from PB buddies that there have been some good pushes of Youngs Bay fish thru there recently.  If the weather's good, go for it.  Launch from the Skipanon and fish the sawdust pile to the bridge.

I would have loved to have made your seminar Mark--I'd of been picking your brain big time. Just couldn't justify the 6 hour round-trip drive.

If you'd like to share some of those tips via PM---I'm all ears. ::) ;D

I did just get a call from Alaska yesterday to go up and help with a project. That could seriously interfere with fishing and hunting. But it should only last about 4-6 weeks. Then I'd have a couple of months off before starting to build "ice roads" . This might work out well.

I hope your seminar went well.

Fished upriver from the bridge today during the flood tide.  Lots of boats around but very little action.  There was a huge group of boats south of church hole but a bit far out there for me after the morning fishing.  I heard from a couple of them that fishing was hot there.  There wasn't as many boats as there have been near Youngs Bay. I'm gonna switch up tactics tomorrow and see what happens.

FYI, you need a discover pass to park at the boat ramp off 401 that was mentioned. Just giving a heads up.  Only a couple of boat trailers there today as well. Not much fishing in that area today.

Anybody getting any action out there?  The PB's are hauling them in.  I'm going to try Wednesday if I can keep work out of the way.

I've got'em in a PB but still getting skunked in the yak.  Insult to injury was getting my king right where I've been putting in the kayak and doing the exact same thing as when I'm kayaking.  I saw a lot of silvers at slack high the other day just above the bridge jumping around like crazy. Couldn't hook up with'em though.  Haven't seen anyone else on the yak out there yet.  I usually fish the end of the ebb through the beginning of the flood.  If anyone has any tips I'm all ears!

2 hrs before high till 2 hours after,  troll faster than you think you need to, 16oz of lead. Spinners are out fishing bait many fold.  Saw you the other day just above the bridge..  I have been in a PB and fishing has been exceptional.  Should be closed fairly soon.
