Did the requisite search and don't see a lot of info.  Seems like a launch at Potlatch and fishing toward the mouth of the Skok might be productive.
Also seems like the Pinks should be hot and heavy at Hoodsport.
Anyone have any tips for a newbie?

You can fish for pinks at hoodsport. There isn't, IMO, fishing at the mouth of the Skok. You can fish over at ball point. The mouth of the Skok is just too shallow.

Interesting.

I have not been on the water except to duck hunt.  But Indian hole, Annas bay look interesting to me.   Finding the deeper water where the fish hang out waiting for rain or tides?  We used to pull u20 flatfish in some shallow (by ps standards) areas where fish staged.  We also pulled spinners and streamers.

I saw that the pinks haven't really showed up yet at hoodsport at least by way of the creel report.

I'd listen to what the reverend has to say on this one... dont think i've ever said that before:)
Head down to the Hatchery and tell us how it fished-
When looking for schools Troll a flasher and hoochie, when you find a school try a pink jigs, or hoochie bombs, or my favorite-flys- they aren't picky!
Good luck,
Ben

you could give it a try... can't say i see anyone trolling that area consistently... but that doesn't mean it doesn't happen.  the fish seem to run from ball point to union then up the river... at least that appears to be the main access.  if you are in a yak, just remember... that area can turn ugly fast... it can go from smooth to ugly wind waves with almost no warning.  I'm happy to share what liitle i know. pm me if you have any specific questions.

I appreciate the information.  I am just looking for the out of the way spots that most boaters have given up on but a yak might fit the bill.  I have hunted that area for ducks for a number of years and you are absolutely right about the wind waves.  There is a little launch in Union with very little parking.  Is there fishing by Union?

Much to learn. I will probably focus mostly on the South Sound but I am not far from Hood Canal either and some of those Skok kings look awful nice.

Well, if you're looking for a space with no boaters over here you will be disappointed.  Plenty of boats, at least by my way of thinking.  If you want  a Skok king, you could paddle up the river and anchor up in a spot.  But you might have better luck if you just join the combat line.  Good luck.

Not if they were catching 500lb blue fin tuna!  Yikes :o :o :o

Just looking for a niche and wondering what the word was on people exploring it.

I was at Hoodsport about 2 weeks ago with homebrewer48 and t_l_2_1. Fish were showing, but the schools were scattered and extra spooky that day. Any movement within 50' or so and they would scatter, but T_l_2_1 managed to pick up one on a marabou jig. Fiver from NCKA was there last week and had one hook up before the wind chased him off the water. If you want to find fish and avoid a crowd, launch at the pier in Hoodsport, but paddle to the point just north of the hatchery and watch the shallows for schools moving down. Most boats and people will be right in front of the hatchery casting at each other like some kind of mid-evil battle where nobody truly wins. and if the natives are netting you will be north of all their chaos there. This is also a nice honey hole when the chum show too.

BTW, keep me in mind when waterfowl opens! I've got 5 doz deeks, a trained retriever, and I used to turn/sell my own brand of calls. Between work and life I've not been duck hunting the last couple of seasons, but I've got the itch again in a bad way!
