We're back from our explorations of Cochrane Bay, Prince William Sound, with our base at the Paulson Bay FSC -- just slightly more than a one-hour water taxi ride from Whittier, Alaska.

There's a story to be told, but Spot's the man who should tell it when he finally makes it home and settles back into the world. My short story report: caught fish every day, so big success for me. I didn't go into it with any big ambitions, other than to explore the bay and find what was lurking. It didn't matter if it was pinks or coppers or silvers or greenling.  (Well, I did have a small hope of finding a legal ling, but that wasn't to be.) In the end, I caught fish and learned a lot in the process.  Like: black bears like Scottish ales, not all sculpins are Irish lords, quillbacks look like Freddy Krueger when they're on the way up, it's best to stop fishing for rockfish after you've dropped your pliers in the drink, and you can never bring enough Advil on a trip like this.

Now I'm wondering how in the world I could have been out there that long and only have 25 pictures on the camera, half of which depict my husband? Luckily, there's a few showing fish so I can at least demonstrate that I didn't get skunked.

Really was a great time all around -- though more of those premium fish would have been nice. Isn't that always the case? I'll organize another one or two PWS trips for next summer, same style. The cost was insignificant -- about $300 inclusive for the Alaskans.  The cabin was perfect, kept us dry and was even warmed with a propane heater.  Plus, we managed to keep solid ice frozen even after we returned.  That proved to be an enormous relief and allowed the catch to return in superior shape: filleted, dried, sealed in Ziplocs and on ice.

I can't thank akfishergal and Carlos_Danger enough for putting this trip together!  And kardinal_84, it's hard to believe that someone would loan their baby to someone they'd never met before.  You Alaska guys and gals are as generous as you are hardcore!

Hopefully whatever I come up with for a trip report does the venue justice....

Any story with "Carlos Danger" in it will be worth the wait....though, I'm thinking I might be okay without seeing any pics from him!  >:D

Is that a little yellow eye or a different type of rockfish?

I'm afraid the answer to that is "yes", Kenai_Guy. I think he was rebelling against being the trailing spouse.  No worries, though.  There was no cell coverage out there, so it's not like he was sexting away like his namesake.
