A buddy of mine told me that his buddy boated five kings from his PB yesterday...I decided today would be a good time to give it a go. I messaged Scott Surf12foot last night because I thought I saw him fishing yesterday afternoon, he confirmed my suspicions and I invited him out to troll the bay this afternoon.
We meet up and get geared up and launch from our super secret location. There's no wind, the current isn't too strong and it's nice and overcast. A perfect day to leave the drysuit behind and fish in this beautiful weather.
As we head to our spot we both noticed a boat hooked up with  nice fish. We quickly haul in our gear when the guy motions his fish is headed our way. This fish is peeling drag! That's when I figure out a seal has his fish. Poor guy, better him than me!
I maneuver my kayak and make sure I'm clear of the PB's line and I drop my gear down until I hit bottom. I take about five kicks on my pedals and BAM! I'm loaded up! I can't believe it. I'm willing to bet my bait made one full turn before this fish grabbed it.
Scott doesn't see this happen because he's still watching the guys fight the seal for the fish(I think). By that time I on the other side of the super secret obstruction. I yell over to Scott to let him in on what's going on. Eventually I drift around the other side of the barge...(oops I mean super secret obstruction!) And I see Scott.
"Scott! I'm hooked up!"
He finally sees me and paddles over.
I've got a decent fish on, it's taking some nice drag peeling runs. I get towed around a bit too. I'm getting pumped at this point and I look over and a smaller PB is watching me fight this fish. He doesn't look very happy for me. >:D
Eventually the fish looks like he's ready to net...that is when I realize my leader is too long and I can't net this fish! I'm face palming, Scott is laughing and this fish decides he isn't tired and dodges and dives everytime I get the net close.
At this point I think Scott decides we need documentation  and he starts taking pictures of me struggling to net this fish. We decide I have to play this fish until he bellies up so I can coax him into my net since I farmed the hand tied mooching rig.
He eventually tires out and I get him in the net and in my lap. I quickly subdue him with my iron bark shampoo and blurt out a celebratory "f$ck yeah!"
I'm stoked and happy to finally boat this fish. Scott takes a couple more pics and we get back to trolling. No more salmon love but we saw a good number of fish jumping and I think four other boats hook up with fish.
It was pretty awesome to pedal to our spot and immediately hook up with a nice king! He measured 30 inches. Not a monster but a great fish! I couldn't ask for a better day :)

Thanks to Scott for hitting the water with me and taking pictures. I can't wait to see how they turn out! I'm hitting it again tomorrow.
Get out there! There's fish to be caught!

Merz and I went fishing today and we both picked up a jack after a long day of trolling. I am not complaining. I'm just happy to be catching fish so early in the season! I've got some fish to smoke :)

Very cool. So, you shortened the leader some?

Just drove from Bandon to Florence today.  Lots of fishing going on everywhere.

Yeah, that was the only rig that was tied too long. I'll be sure to be more aware of the lengths from now on.
I'm getting excited. I'm catching fish earlier than last year and the fishing is only going to get better before it gets worse!
You have to make it out this way to fish with the locals.
