Mollalamike and myself are going to Pacific City in the morning. Going to try for salmon and rockfish. Will monitor 69 if anyone else heads that way.

Fished PC on Monday with a buddy and we caught four lings two cabs and five black. It was slow due to heavy winds. We both got hammered by the breakers on the way in. Tell us how you did when you can.

Had a good day of fishing. Weather was perfect and the surf was nice to us. Started out by dropping our pots in about 80 fow South of the rock approx 500 yards. Then we began trolling for salmon. I was using plug cut herring with a flasher dropped down to the level of the bait fish I was marking at around 60 feet. Mike was using a wobbler spoon thingy (can't think of the name) with 4 oz of lead. We trolled around 3 miles at various depths through never-ending jelly fish. I didn't have a bite but every time my line sliced through jelly it made my heart stop. Mike had the same luck as me for salmon. We did see one salmon jumping for its life from something just north of the rock approx 300 yards. Didn't  see any Dory boats have any salmon luck either. We gave up on salmon and switched to rockfish. I landed two 26 inch lings, a 20 inch cab, at least 15 blacks, and something that had the colors of a smallmouth. Mike got 1 keeper ling, a nice cab, a bunch of blacks, and a couple small lings. We caught them all using Purple and black Lancer Jigs. I overheard a discussion on a Dory boat wondering why we were having so many hook ups. Most rockfish were caught north of the rock in 90ish feet and the rest were caught in 70ish southwest of the rock. The fish didn't seem to bite in the shallower water. As for crabbing we caught 2 jellyfish, 1 starfish, and a bunch of females.
No pics due to a fish puking on my phone. Great day of fishin though.

Thanks for reporting back! Glad to hear the lingcod are biting. Stars are beginning to align for a trip out Saturday, hope the forecast holds.

Others have reported that the size of blacks was up for a few weeks there - sounds like you got into plenty of them, care to share avg size? Just curious. Also I've been noticing I've been catching more mid-water column than on the bottom when I'm targeting them (rather than lings/cabs) - were you finding most of them near the bottom or a bit higher up?

Thanks for the report - hope your phone is OK.

Hey there ketapatterns, most of the blacks were in the 16 to 18 inch range I would say. They did seem bigger than normal. We caught several of them while reeling in at about halfway between bottom and the surface. I thought about casting for them but the jellyfish made it difficult. I would say sw of the rock they were on the bottom, and north of the rock they were at mid level.

Thanks for the info, I sincerely appreciate it. I've got no fish finder so far so it's valuable getting that kind of info. :) I was finding similar trends my last time out.
