Its been a long time since I have been on this forum but I finally remembered my username and password.

Went to La Push on Monday and fished off the rocks for the first time for rockfish and salmon.  Wind picked up pretty good and the waves got to be 6 ft+ or bigger.  Went around the outside and fished 1/2 to 1 mile west and northwest beyond the rocks.  Caught a few rockfish but the current and wind made it difficult to fish.  Tried just inside the rocks and could not get anything.  In some places the waves coming in reflected off the rocks and it was like I was in a giant washing machine with 6 ft+ waves coming from all directions.  My partner was seasick so I was by myself most of the time.  Saw no kayaks or any boats fishing in sight.

Talked my partner into going to Sekiu so he wouldnt get sick plus I had never fished there before and wanted to give it a try.  Headed out 2-3 miles on Tuesday afternoon and released 1 wild coho.  Went out again wednesday morning in a breeze.  Had a fantastic time and caught/released 7 kings to 15 lbs.  Caught a couple coho releasing a nice wild one of about 12 lbs.  Also got 1 nice sized pink (10 fish total).  This was in about 3 hours of fishing.  Some chop and whitecaps made it challenging to troll up wind and I got soaked a bit but didnt get cold in my sweatpants, polar fleece and sandels.  Apex's and coyote spoons were the ticket for me.

Looking forward to trying it again next year.

Good job and nice fish. Use to live in Clallam Bay. A very good area to fish for kings when I was there was 300 yards off the beach from the old Coast Guard light station out to the light.  Used plug cut herring about 3 to 4 oz of weight. Let the weight bounce off the bottom.  Caught 25 to 35lb kings in that area. Not sure why the Kings are attracted to that area. The bottom is like small gravel rock pretty much like the beaches are in Clallam Bay.  Hoping to go back up to that area in the near future and do some fishing. Thanks for the report.
