Today was day 3 fishing the Siuslaw for salmon. Wild Coho retention went into effect yesterday, so I was hoping to catch one today. Saw a couple of nice Nooks caught the first two times out, but nothing for me. I started trolling along the south side of the river, and since the tide was coming in, I followed it up a ways. Turned around a trolled back against the tide back to where I began. During this pass, I noticed a area where lots of fish were jumping. I decided to work this area and after again trolling against the tide, I got slammed real good, but it didn't stick. Made another pass , again against the tide, and wham, this time it stuck. I ended up netting a nice 29inch Coho! This was my first salmon in the Hobie, and I have to say, it's so nice to be able to hold your rod while trolling. Such a rush getting bit! BTW, the spinner popped out just as I netted the fish!

Really nice fish!  I love trolling and holding the rod at the same time, it's a great rush.

Nice fish, Dave! Way to get some salmon love on the Outback. I hope there's plenty more where that came from.

After I got back home today, I noticed that I had snapped the idler cable on the mirage drive. It's a good thing I wasn't far from the port when I caught the fish! Now I am bummed I can't take the Hobie out and get another Coho this week!
