Dude and i had a pretty good day fishing the Coos Basin Derby, no fish that placed in the rankings but a day of firsts for both of us. Dude caught her first adult Chinook and first Derby day fish and i caught my first Derby Day fish after many disappointing derbies in the past.

We fished upriver from Somar to get out of the crowds, not knowing if it would be productive but it sure was peaceful not having to fight the wakes of 50+ PB's in Somar proper. There was maybe 8 boats trolling this area and after two hours of a PB catching a fish behind behind us or in front of us on every pass, even Dude was muttering a few choice expletives under her breath!

Finally on the 4th pass dude hooks up on her first Adult Salmon ever, too bad i screwed the pooch on videoing her...bummer! Was awesome to see her fight and land this fish solo, she did an awesome job as she seems to do with every fish she catches!

Not 20 minutes later i hook up with a nice 16 pound buck! My first fish caught during the Coos Basin Derby! Of course Dude did a great Job on getting the video of it. What a great day! I even manged to Land another fish the next day, much smaller then Saturdays though!

Yes, i tried to screw up the net job, but still got it in spite of that.. :-\

Sorry for the terrible pic dude! got her with her eyes closed...

Congrats to both of you! I may have to come down there next week after I get the new idler cable.
