I've been lurking in the background for a week or so, reading a lot of fish tales  ;D and good info...  Decided it was time to drop the cloaking device and come out into the light.  I've got an Elie Gulf 120 SOT 'yak which has been mostly used just in near-shore waters here in the Sound - one outing at Mukilteo, the rest various sites around Gig Harbor and vicinity.  I haven't done any fishing from it, but I'd like to start.  Mostly I paddle around and just use the boat as a mental stress-relief thing  8)
Built myself a downwind sail for it, also fun when the winds cooperate.  No rudder, no propellor or boat-flippers, etc.  Just the paddle.

It's been a good many years since I did any fishing (grew up here in Lynnwood, was stationed in Omaha NE (USAF) and ended up spending 27 yrs there before coming back), so expect a lot of "dumb beginner questions" as I figure out the saltwater thing again.

Welcome!  This is a great site with friendly folk to help you learn!  I am out on the Key.  I think there are a couple of others from Gig Harbor on here as well.  We will have to have a Gig Harbor fishing trip sometime.

Enjoy the adventure!

Thanks for the welcome   I would love to get out some time and try it out, but first I have to go spend a week or so in SanDiego playing around the water (sea kayak, snorkel, jet ski, that sorts of stuff) while the wife works...

Wow, sounds rough. Try to survive that until you get back to the rain.

Welcome Jim! I'm a brand new member on this site as of today - what a great discovery. I've been fishing on my yak for nearly two years now in the Vancouver, WA area, mostly on the Columbia R., Lewis R. and the lake systems above the Lewis. Although I've been fishing alone since I bought my Hobie yak, I'd definitely be interested in getting together for some NW Angler member trips (really thinking about Tillamook Bay kings??). I'll be on the water first thing in the morning since it's TGIF.
