Where is a good place to launch for fishing the Yaquina River just upriver from the bay...or as far up river where the fish are?
Does anyone catch salmon in the Yaquina?

I've fished there twice, last year, and did not catch anything but had a couple on. There were lots of coho around Toledo about this time last year but I don't know what this early rain would have done to things this year. I have heard anecdotes of great Chinook fishing in the Yaquina some years but you never see much written about it . There are boat ramps by the Toledo airport and one along the road just down from Toledo and then there are two more up at Elk City. I have trout fished up there from the kayak and done OK. I'd suggest driving from Elk City all the way down along the river  and just fish where you see lots of boat trailers for lack of any better advice. I plan to try it once this year , at least. You might try asking Chumchum from the forum. He lives over there.

By the way, the U-da_man tourney is this Saturday.

Thanks for the info!   I'll be fishing the UdaMan but going with a PB.  Hope to see some yakkers out there.

Wonderful! I've wanted to do that the last few years but, again, can't make it this year.

Launched from the Toledo Airport boat ramp -- what a great spot.  Easy access for a kayak to the Yaquina.

What an awesome sunny fall day!  Great day to be fishing!

Put-in about 30min before high tide and went up-river, then turned around and followed the tide out for a while and returned to the ramp.  I didn't catch any fish today, but there were lots of PB that came back to the ramp with some salmons.  They said they were fishing closer to the bay.  Water was pretty brown for clarity, I was dragging herring behind a flasher and a drop weight.  Maybe next time...

I got a few spots I put in by the oyster farm on the bay road. Let me know if you guys want to go out some time this week. I was out by cannon park yesterday and fished by the farm today for nada. Did see some nice fish jumping and one fish landed by a PB.

bb, how was the tournament? Did you get any and were there any kayakers?

I'm going to the south county for a chore tomorrow but will probably just bank fish Alsea on the way home since I'll only have a short time to fish.

Alsea was good this weekend! my neighbor landed a nice 30 in plus nook and a mid 20's coho as well as a jack with corkies and twine. All he told me was that it was 4 mils up past tide water.

Encouraging. I'd think it's going to be money about anywhere down low after that rain. I'll have too much junk in my pickup to take the kayak this time.

U da Man tournament was fun, We caught one fish all day 19lb 8oz  Good enough for 3rd place - the boat captain reeled it in, so that's a bonus.  Would have liked to catch my own... STILL TRYING.  I saw a few kayak fishermen out there!!  They looked like they were having fun when the wind wasn't blowing.

You might have seen me and my GF out there then I was in the OK prowler (sand colored) and she was in my WS ride (Blue). I tried to get her on her first salmon but the bite was hard

Yes, I remember seeing you!  Tough day of fishing for sure...we just gotta keep trying.  I think I'm going out tomorrow to the same spot...this time in my kayak (red hobie) try try again.   MIght try to find a launch closer to the oyster farm.  Barb
